what is there not to be hyped about? NPD numbers might show that ps3 has outsold the 360 worldwide. and with proven IPs actually coming out this year like MGS4, GT5p, and R2. Not to mention multiplats like DMC4 and GTAIV what is not to like about the ps3 in 2008?
The ps3 has sold well despite not having "any games" like all ps3 haters like to say. I'm sorry but 07 had a strong showcase of games. And 08 will be even better.
Sony has won the format war, and that pushcan only help in the console war as the ps3 is one of the cheapest blu-ray players out on the market.
There is no false sense of momentum, because there is momentum building for the ps3 and its only going to snowball as the year progesses.

You say that the PS3 sold despite it not having any games, yet in the next paragraph you mention that Sony has won the format war and the PS3 is one of the cheapest blu-ray players on the market.
Do you think that there is a possibility that a lot of PS3s have been sold primarily to play movies?
[QUOTE="Speedy454545"]Gears of War 2...
That game alone will keep me occupied for my online play.

Yeah, gotta love those 4 on 4 matches!
Uhhhh......yeah. More is not necessarily better, IMO.
[QUOTE="jessie5788"]ms should of at least made every sku with a hardrive since they don't have a hi-def format. not having a hdd in every 360 is going to bite them in the a$$ later.jimm895
It already has. Then you have to remeber that MS has always put it to the consumer and then make a excuse for doing so later. The RROD problem they knew about long before the extended warranty deal, even then they would always say things break until repair centers started refusing to repair this problem and stating that they had no fix for this problem then and only then did MS admitt to the problem with the three year warranty for the RROD only.
Yeah, and Sony is the benevolent corporation who only cares about the consumer.
Sony, among other things, is a movie studio. Let's face it, the only reason Blu-ray was developed was for it's more restrictive DRM. They and their movie studio allies are forcing this expensive technology down gamer's and movie fan's throats. This is going to cost consumers a lot of money in the long run.
I don't want to even get into Sony's hidden spyware escapades of the past.
[QUOTE="FreewayScruff"]It is an incredible game with tons of replay value, the story is very interesting and the characters are hilarious, I can`t remember the last time a game has made me laugh so much.

lol that was funny, but in terms of humor, id put portal above this
Ditto.
i wonder what would happen if sony would not let blu-ray get into MS's hands.
edit: now that blu-ray is looking as if its going to win the format war. the gaming industry might benefit from cheaper blu-rays since its going to be produced much more if its the lone standard thus reducing costs. And more R&D from other companies would be good for blu-ray technology too

I agree with you that a single format is better for R&D, however, lack of competition will keep prices higher than they would have been otherwise.
In addition, Blu-ray is not needed for games and was never developed for games.
Unfortunately, the most expensive technology seems to have won. Thanks to the movie studios (including Sony) for shaking down consumers.
