Yeah a big reason I pre-ordered the night before was for the free X-COM: Enemy Unknown bonus on Steam.

I really enjoyed Torchlight II, if it had D3's polish and graphics engine, it would be everything I expected D3 to be more or less. Neither game has the dark, gritty appeal of Diablo II though, and Torchlight II's art and graphics are abysmal really, for the DX11 era any ways - 4-5 years ago it would've been top notch. Had to take a break from all the ARPG stuff though, overload.

1. It's too easy on the first two difficulties, they did the same to D2 in a way, but it was still more challenging and forboding without throwing off the pace. 2. The skill system means shuffling powers/abilities in and out of slots that open by leveling, so everyone gets the same character, there's no need to re-roll characters - you just switch up abilities on the fly. You do hardly ANY skill choosing or allocating, it's almost all completely automatic - they even removed the ability to allocate health/mana and other attributes as a major decision (saying everyone used the same build in D2 - really? My health/mana and attributes were largely dependent on the type of loot I found in-game. 3. The pacing is awful, you fly through some levels/areas, crawl around others, and instead of a couple of bigger, interesting dungeons that contain quest items and crazy stuff and a mini-boss, you get a bunch of one room basements and some boring, smallish caves that are hardly worthwhile and become nothing but a stall tactic to finish an area. 4. The Butcher's return and early battle (sorry if that's a spoiler still?) was so lame I couldn't stand it - goes down easy, and was a poor testament to that first run-in from D1 that was nearly impossible and incredibly dark and evil. 5. Even Diablo is a joke until you get to the highest difficulty, which makes it anti-climatic. Getting there should be a chore and take days or weeks casually, instead you just cut through ridiculous amts of mobs so fast you can't tell what's going on and then the game's over. 5. Auction House - Who cares if you find a nice weapon or bit of armor? You can always find something better at the AH or in your stash. It's MMO-like and lame, I miss trading straight-up or finding unique items in "your game instance" that makes your character unique. And then you can try selling your "great find" on AH and watch it go unsold forever unless you practically give it away.

DIII was going to sell millions regardless of how good or bad it is or was upon release.

EXTREMELY weak sale this year - then again not that many games have been released since last Christmas either.

[QUOTE="modernsocks"]

What are you talking about? The whole reason we're playing this game is because that's NOT what Diablo 3 does. Diablo 3 forces you to play with strangers in the world of WarcRaft.

Sardinar

Diablo 2 had a lot more to do with World of Warcraft than Diablo 3 does. WoW was actually based on Diablo 2 - Diablo 3 looks like neither games because Diablo 2 is too hardcore and for D3 to play like WoW would impair on the mmorpg's sales.

What's important is that Diablo 3 is a not Diablo game. It's some abomination that Jay Wilson created from his worst nightmares.

You lost me at, "WoW was actually based on Diablo 2."

I also have problems with the cinematics' audio, it cuts out every few seconds It's a bad bug they need to address asap apparently. Everything else is fine for me in the game, other than some overly long load times, that also likely need to be addressed.

It's not nearly as good as Diablo II was/is, period. In my mind it's a pretty big flop, yes.
