Ooo, lookie here!

"Licensing fees will still be required through the SMPTE, and Microsoft will receive royalties for the use of its patents."

Again, what was that?

if that report knew what it was talking about....it would make mention of the other companies.......like the Three links i gave u.....down....

Thats all you got? Please, do you really think companies like MS wouldn't get paid royalties for patents they have a part in? You're living in a fantasy world, the License prices are even on MS' we site, you're seriously reaching now, give it up...

lol....nice.....back it now.....

Straight from Microsoft.

"Discounted rates applicable to licensees with VC-1 Patent Portfolio License Agreement with MPEGLA."

What was that?

yes...that is the royalty....doesnt go to microsoft....they own the name like i said......so it is listed.....but stick with what works for you.....whatever makes you happy....

No, again, you don't understand, ALL the companies involved receive royalties for the codec, is that all you got?

owners of sales and distribution get royalties......like any business......workers dont get royalties they get money if they sell it themselves......please dont laugh when......u know.......

Thats not how it works, the company who distributes the product, (In this case, MPEG LA) gets the money then distributes it down the pyrimad...

realize who owns sales and distribution.....again...... http://www.scribd.com/doc/4660446/VC1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VC1 http://www.reference.com/browse/VC-1?jss=1

[QUOTE="navyguy21"][QUOTE="Supa__Mario"][QUOTE="navyguy21"] Yes, some codecs are free to the CONSUMER, however, if a comany, corporation, or any other business use them in the creation of their own tech, a royalty fee must be paid BY LAW!!. And the VC-1 codec in Bluray IS OWNED BY MICROSOFT, as stated on the OFFICIAL BLURAY WEBSITE!! So the site is wrong, and you, a lowly system wars poster, is correct?

VC-1 development is owned by microsoft......sales and distribution.....Sonic Solutions.........

Blu-ray uses MS' VC-9 Codecs. (Also known as VC-1)

SONY being the co-founder makes no difference, the Blu-ray tech is owned by the BDA.
