Got my villains bracket done!

Well, it took some time and tough decisions, but my final four ended up being Ganondorf, Bowser, Darth Malak, and Sephiroth, with this guy taking home the prize:

Hope I do better than last year...

Supes out!

Just a quick update on what's going on with Superzone..

Sup guys! Haven't posted a blog in a while, but don't worry, I've been pretty active on the forums and visiting people's blogs, as well as being on The Playback Union (join it if you haven't already! Go to my unions and check it out!).

Currently, I'm playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer (still), Super Street Fighter IV (awesome, but people online are jerks), 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I also just voted in the wild card round of the Greatest Video Game Villains. Can't wait for that to get going. Hopefully I'll have a better bracket than the Hero one last year :P

My E3 2010 grades and opinions

Sup guys. Superzone here to share some opinions about this year's E3 conferences.

Microsoft

Unimpressive. The first 1/3 of their show was pretty cool. Gears of War 3, Halo Reach, CoD Black Ops. But once they went into Kinect, I quickly became unimpressed. Blatant knock-offs of Wii Sports and Wii Fit were pretty bad, but the dancing demonstration just made me sick. Microsoft's conference quickly brought back bad memories of Nintendo's 2008 conference. Oh God.....

Grade: D

Nintendo

Let me just start with this: this was Nintendo's best conference in years. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to start the conference was awesome enough. But then we get a new Kirby? And a new Donkey Kong by Retro Studios? And a Mario sports compilation? And the super sweet 3DS with confirmations of a new Kid Icarus,Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, and Star Fox?? Good Lord. 2008 and 2009 were embarrassing years to own a Wii, but Nintendo has just made up for it. Consider me a proud Nintendo fan again.

Grade: A

Sony

While not quite as impressive as the last couple of E3 conferences, Sony's showing was quite good. Unlike Microsoft, Sony actually seems to be doing creative things with their new motion controls. I really liked Sorcery, and they really showed innovation with the Move. Aside from move, the other games were awesome. Killzone 3 looks fantastic, and the Dead Space 2 gameplay just about melted my face.

Grade: B+

And here are the fivegames I am now most excited for:

Metroid: Other M

Image 3

I was excited for this before, but damn was that new trailer awesome. I've been waiting for a new Metroid adventure since Prime 3, and I think this will be worth the long wait.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

Image 1I have been waiting for a new console Kirby game for as long as I can remember, and Kirby's Epic Yarn looks likenostalgic Kirby and fresh innovation at the same time.

Dead Space 2

Image 4

Like I said, that new Dead Space 2 trailer practically melted my face. I loved the first game, and I can't wait to be terrified all over again.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Image 11

As if this is really surprising coming from me, I can't freaking wait for the new Zelda. I'm really digging the realistic/cel-shaded mix (although I was personally hoping for a darker tone again), and I can't wait to have true 1:1 swordplay in a Zelda game.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Image 2

Thebiggest and best surprise of the show, Donkey Kong Country Returns by Retro Studios looks like it's going to bring the monkey back into prime form. Can't wait.

Awesome E3, and I can't wait to play these games.

Awwww man

Drew Brees won the Madden NFL 11 cover. I wanted it to be Jared Allen :(

In this publicity image released by EA Sports, ...

Well I do gotta admit, that's a pretty badass image of Drew Brees. Well whatever, I'm still buying this :D

I got a letter published in the latest Nintendo Power!!!

 :o :D

In issue 253 (Scribblenauts 2 is on the cover), I was was surprised to see that a letter I sent them last month about Metroid: Zero Mission was the first letter shown in the issue's pulse section! Woo hoo!!

Sadly, they put 'No Name Given' for my name (I sent them my first name and the first letter of my last name after the letter, I guess they don't show real names or something), but no matter, this is still very exciting!! :)

Just picked up HeartGold. First impressions.

Sup guys. I finally purchased Pokemon HeartGold today (I wanted SoulSilver but my little brother claimed it first :P ), here are some quick first impressions.

File:250Ho-Oh.png

I've definitely felt the nostalgia in the first couple of hours, and it's awesome. The graphics are a nice step up from Diamond/Pearl, the remade music is fantastic, and while some might complain about the original, grainy Pokemon screeches still in the game, I think it's awesome. The gameplay setup is practically identical to D and P, with a few tweaks made here and there, such as not having to hold down B to run all the time as it does it automatically.

The Pokewalker has me pleasently surprised. It is very well built, and it's very addicting to use. It really takes me back to the days of having Tomagachi/pocket pet devices and it's really sweet.

HeartGold/SoulSilver is a fantastic game so far, and I have many, many hours ahead of me. If you have a DS and like an addictive RPG, get it.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 releasing May 23rd

Image 2

Oh yeah.

Nintendo announced this morning that the official release date of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is May 23rd, 2010. Much earlier than expected, huh?

Actually, it does seem to make sense. Assuming Nintendo is wanting to release Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid: Other M, and the new Zelda all in 2010, it's seems ideal that they would want these three games released as far away from each other as possible.

Since Galaxy 2 is releasing in May, I'm going to guess that Metroid: Other M will see the light of day sometime in August, since that is traditionally a month that belongs to Metroid (we recently saw both Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Prime Trilogy release on an August release date).

Image 1

So where does this leave Zelda? Well, November of course, as it's traditionally a month that belongs to Zelda, we saw both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess release in November.

Nintendo fans, pray that Zelda releases this year. If it does, this will be a year to remember for Nintendo. Mario, Metroid, and Zelda all releasing in the same year, it's practically unheard of. I'm finally proud to be a Wii owner again.

Superzone out.

EDIT: Well, looks like I made this blog a little too fast. Nintendo also just announced that Metroid: Other M will be released on June 27th.

Summer 2010 = best summer ever.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4. I must be dreaming...

I seriously can't believe this has been announced. I've loved Sonic since the early 90s when I play the Genesis titles, and I still loved him throughout the last decade that we all suffered, and now the prayers of many gamers has been answered: Sonic is going back to 2D in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

The trailer doesn't show much but it's fairly obvious that the game is in the style of the original Sonic games, and it looks gorgeous. I would bet the game will play almost identical to them as well.

If you haven't seen the teaser yet for this game, check it out.

Latest game: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Just purchased TVC, and man is it awesome.

I was originally turned off by this game when it was first revealed as I'm not a huge fan of 2D fighters (I'm a 3D fighter kinda guy) and I obviously didn't know who the heck half the characters were. As time went on, reviews popped up, and I got an awesome trading card with my latest issue of Nintendo Power, I finally caved and made the decision to buy it. No regrets at all.

The game is insanely fun to play, the characters are all unique and play differently, the graphics are great and have style, and there's tons to unlock. I haven't tried the online yet (I've been playing it with my brother and doing single player stuff), but from what I hear it's smooth as butter, so I can't wait to try that out.

If you even remotely like 2D fighers, and even if you're bad at them like I am, give TVC a try as it's pretty easy to jump in and start learning how to play, and it's very rewarding and fun. Don't let the unknown characters scare you off either, you'll get used to them and they'll grow on you.

If you've got a Wii, definitely check this game out.
