[QUOTE="Ein-7919"][QUOTE="zomglolcats"]Actually, there have been MMO's that had relatively smooth betas and launches. I think in this day and age of big budget games and publishers, the whole "it's an MMO! They always launch with problems!" argument is getting a little old.zomglolcats
Actually, the argument is still a valid one. I mean, all you have to do is look at what have been relatively smooth launches, and they're still plagued with connectivity issues and/or broken features. World of Warcraft had authentication problems, servers were over whelmed, and the game was almost unplayable for a good month after launch (which got to the point that Blizzard gave nearly a month's worth of free game time to subscribers). So, no...the "it's an MMO" excuse is just as valid today as it was in the days of UO and EQ.
But back to the topic at hand, I mostly remember the Ragnarok Online and Ultima Online betas. The collective cries of the testers as they discovered that their characters had been wiped just made me smile.
The problem is, people don't have the patience anymore. When they have their nicely polished WoW (which yes, wasn't polished in the beginning), going to play something that runs less than perfect puts them in a frenzy and they quickly go back to what they were playing before. Unless issues are corrected very fast, people aren't going to stick around. Just ask Funcom.Well that is kinda understanable if you pey for a gameAND pey for it monthly and you cant pley it cuse of buggs and other issues who are goin to stick around for that? They shoud just have a longer beta period and fix all the problems before the game launch.
