It might be a bit premature to say Nintendo won E3... but MS made sure that Sony lost because of FFXIII going multiplat. Of course, they shot themselves in the foot with some of the least innovative games and apps in a while.

  • Avatars are just creepy Miis.
  • Lips is Singstar.
  • The dashboard looks alright, but nothing really different.
  • And that EyeToy ripoff.

So MS makes Sony and Nintendo look innovative... and unless Nintendo announces they're not making any games this year, they've won.

Oh, and that new MotionPlus thing is already looking pretty sweet.

Fanboy out!

The Avatars are just a smidge bit creepy. Miis have a weird charm to them, but I like them.

And the art direction is different... Miis have a cartoon look while Avatars seem more Claymation-like.

I'm hoping for the new money-printing SKU. I'd buy it.

Of course. Microsoft is jumping on the Wii bandwagon, but the Avatars won't have that Mii charm that made them popular.

The MS press conference effectively made Nintendo and Sony the big winners. MS is finally willing to cater to casual gamers... but I think it's too little too late. The Wii has already taken the casual/non-gamer market and Scene It, Uno, and Lips won't do a thing. MS has also showcased games and accessories that make Sony look innovative. Lips and that EyeToy ripoff? Fine, then.

On the upside, the new dashboard might be a good thing and FFXIII coming to the PS3 is a blow to Sony, but overall, Microsoft' conference was disappointing.

They do rear their ugly head occasionally. Right, Mario Kart Wii?

Then there's this one for Majora's Mask. Good stuff.

Great marketing is one reason. Casual appeal, price, name brand recognition, ease of use and some big games made the Wii a success.

Now price can be disputed, but this gen, the competing gaming consoles started out at $399 and $599... which is expensive for gamers in general. There is a big difference in price between the PS3 and Wii... and the 360 at $399 is still pretty high. It's a factor since the economy is down, but it's certainly not the only reason.

I don't know anything about the gameplay, but the graphics look great... actual colors!

As for EA, they are still evil... just not as evil as they used to be. If Spore is as great as the hype I'm giving it, I'll even say that EA is neutral... even good.
