Who said anything about speaking and communication being left out? Spanking should not be used as the only punishment, but if the kid isn't listening, spanking makes them listen. When I was a kid, I did something bad. I was told not to do it again. I did it again. I was yelled at. I did it again. I was spanked. I didn't do it again.
So when they grow up, they will do something and keep on doing it until someone hits them............It will make them learn to stop or they'll get a beating, not why it's "wrong" or why they shouldn't do it.I will spank if need be.
Yes I was spanked.
The pacifists need to learn a thing or two. Nothing can make a kid learn faster than a good spanking, especially if the child has done wrong multiple times doing the same thing.TacticalElefant
You could try all you want to explain to a 3 or 4 year old why not to do something, and do you expect them to understand the ramifications of what they are doing? Let's take for instance a child whom constantly jumps around on the back of a couch repeated times after being told not to do so. Now let's yell at him and try to explain to him the qualities of newtonian physics to him if he was to fall head first, possibly breaking/crushing his spine. Now let's try the "no!" then spank theory.............
I think you could've found a better example than a kid jumping on the couch:|
Messing with electrical outlets or equipement, being argumentive (this was a severe problem with me as a child), consistently troublesome over the same issue or occasion, being inconsiderate, etc, etc.

Spanking doesn't entail abuse, except maybe to freaking hippie. Even so, if it is "abuse", a bit of abuse in this case seems alot better than a possibly dead or injured child, simply because the parent was afraid that a little light corperal punishment. Once a child reaches an age of being able to understand (for some it's early on, others much later) then full explanation of such will be more useful. When I was younger I was spanked when I did things repeatedly or knew that I was doing something wrong. And it wasn't abusive at all, nor was it the "bend over knee" kind either, if I got caught, it was an immediate "WHAP" to the butt from my mom. My dad never spanked me lol.
