So they can pay for all the CGI cutscenes.inoperativeRS

you do of course realize that the MAJORITY of the cutscenes in the game are in-engine. I still cant believe how good they look tho. Some of the action sequences later on would have been prerendered 3 years ago.

I really hope on the next podcast tom comes out and just eats crow. He needs to admit that he is a moron when it comes to pc games. Predicting any blizzard game to be a flop is a stupid moronic move. Tom has lost what little crediblity he has. 1.8 Million copies in the US alone in just under 24 hours. Yeah thats a flop lol

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/81096/starcraft-ii-sells-18-million-copies-on-day-1-excluding-korea/

"Early data is in and it looks likeStarCraft II: Wings of Libertyhas become the fastest-selling game of 2010 to date and one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time. VGChartz estimates that around 1.8 million units of the game were sold on day 1 across the Americas and Europe including both physical retail sales and Battle.net download sales. This figure does not include players in Korea where it is virtually impossible to accurately estimate how many people will have purchased the game due to the way in which it is sold - mainly via time cards and also with Blizzard announcing thatWorld of Warcraftusers with an active account in Korea would be able to play the game free of charge. The number of players in Korea playing the game on day 1 could be as high at 3-4 million but only Blizzard will know for sure.

Breaking down the 1.8 million sales in the Americas and Europe, VGChartz estimates that around 31% or 570,000 units were sold digitally via Battle.net (obtained via a study of order numbers during the first day of sale) with the remainder coming from physical retail sales and 57% of total sales coming from the Americas with the remainder from Europe."

Eat it Tom Mcgreno!

Console bias? but they didn't comment on the quality of the game, they just talked about sales. How can that be bias?

Also, they are right for the most part. Wether you like or not, there will be less sales because of piracy and because the gamedoesn't belong to popular genre such as a console FPS. To what extent you believe sales will be affected is up to you, but the fact is, its going to happen.

JohnF111

you cant pirate it. it requires authentication for single player and multiplayer. The authentication servers require a cd key and activation. It requires constant internet connection. Its like AC2. Also they were talking about how the publisher might not have confidence in it. Thats total bs

Wrong... its already been pirated, cracked and the server authentication has been worked around...

Again, not for multiplayer.

I rate that troll a 2/10 for originality.

RobbySpry

That is quite offensive to say. As if a person needs to be a troll to consider SC2 too similar to SC.

You say this with ignorance SC2 is a lot more different then SC than you think, but you dont actually try and do the research. Its the little things that have changed the game SO MUCH from the original. You have to play SC2 in a completely different way than sc1. You have to worry about stuff like walling off, height advantages, hard counters ect. Scouting is even more crucial in sc2 than it was in sc1. Units like marines that you only used in the beginning of a round in sc1 now have a place in sc2. In fact in sc2 they are a hard counter to one of the protoss air units!.

Also each race gets new abilities to help with economy/unit production. Terran get mules and supply drops. Zerg get the queen which functions as a defensive unit plus creep spreader PLUS can hatch eggs on a hatchery which leads to faster unit producing. Protoss have warpgates which let them almost instantly transport units to the playing field (with a cooldown) as well as temporance which lets the player choose what building process they want to speed up.

So to say that sc2 is just like sc1 with a few units and new graphics is very very ignorant.

You're talking about the original version. The cracked version will be different. ;) This is the very same kind of protection that C&C4 had that got cracked in a jiffy. It's all about finding and replacing the file(s) with the untouched authentication-data and replacing them with files that has already been activated and denying the computer access to the authenthication-servers.

still wont be able to play multiplayer.
