Once consoles are capable of 1080p, 60 FPS, good draw distance, good polygon counts, high resolution textures, good anti-aliasing and effects, graphics won't have much more room for improvement. The only other aspects of a game that would benefit from more CPU power are AI and physics. The PS4 and the new Xbox will not have a significant graphical advantage over the Wii U like the PS3 and 360 have over the Wii. We're at the ceiling here folks. I think Sony and Microsoft are going to have a hard time coming up with compelling reasons for consumers to purchase their next consoles. The traditional selling point of better graphics is not going to work anymore.

Once the PS4 and the new Xbox are out, I don't think developers will have to water down their games much to get them on the Wii U. This is because the Wii U will be near the ceiling in terms of graphics.

I'm fed up with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. That's ok though, PC gaming is better than ever. Starcraft 2, Minecraft, Portal 2... who needs consoles?

Graphics are good enough. I wish developers would stop worrying about graphics and start focusing more on making fun games. If you've played Minecraft you know what I'm talking about.

Ahh, back when games were simple and actually fun to play. I miss those days. My hope is that the video game industry crashes and gets back to basics. The huge money hungry publishers have got to go if we ever want real games again. I'm talking about Activision, EA, Microsoft and Square Enix. They're all too big for their own good and they're killing the industry. I want Squaresoft back, the Electronic Arts of the 1990's, Blizzard as a standalone company and Microsoft needs to go away and stick to making Windows and Office products.

I'm a lifelong gamer but as I hit the age of 28 I'm worried about falling behind the younger generation when it comes to gaming performance. My brother is 18 and no matter how hard I try he beats me 14 out of 15 times in 1v1 battles in Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 1 & 2. We both have the same amount of experience playing these games and fighting games in general so I'm puzzled as to why there's such a huge difference in our performance and why I'm coming up so short. His mind is much sharper than mine in general, it's very clear when we play games together. He always knows exactly what to do next in co-op games when I don't have a clue. I struggle with figuring out what buttons do what when playing a new game, he picks up on that really quickly. I'm not unhealthy either, I have good eating habits and I jog a lot.

I know 28 isn't old and maybe my bro is simply smarter than I am, but it does have me thinking about age anyway. Our physical ability begins to decline in our upper 20's (reaction times begin dropping at 26 according to a medical textbook I was reading). I'm wondering at what point will we be at a major disadvantage to kids in their teens and early 20's. It would be cool to get some imput from 30-something and 40-something gamers. How are you guys holding up against the younger generation?

I bet the amount of iPhone/iTouch owners who plays games on the device is way below the amount of people who play games on the DS and PSP.

Playstation 4 games are already in developement. Microsoft will have to make a move soon, especially if they want to be first to the market again.

lawlessx

what makes you think microsoft isn't working on they're next console?

Make a move as in announcing, marketing and releasing their next console in the near future (possibly next year).
