And its definitely not because the dvd drive is broken, because all my other games work fine. xbox live also auto-downloaded updates with my other games like GRAW, and PGR3, but they continued to work fine.

HMMMMM, the only place i can think of that u could clear data from would be your settings blade from the dashboard.....
dude, have you tried to clear-up your system's cache section by reseting it during the game's main manu loading sequence ??? If not , then do this: Once you fired-up your 360 and saw Bethessda Softworks press and hold Y and right bumper (not sure about combination though) !!!
