oblivion is my third favorite rpg of all time. first and second being morrowind and ultima vii respectively.

i still believe that the majority of the people who say they don't like it would change their minds if they tried to use some of the amazing fanmade mods out there.

i do agree that vanilla oblivion isn't a very well put together game in some cases, but neither was morrowind. it can be fixed with mods.
