[QUOTE="joe11king"][QUOTE="LeviLRP"] [QUOTE="frank_west03"] I'm looking for info on replacing my disc drive. specificly flashing help pleaseLeviLRP
I am wondering the same thing. I was looking into getting a new Drive as mine seems to be slowly going out, but have no idea how to do this.
the 360 disk drives have special firmaware that lets them read 360 disks, so you'd need to find an actual 360 stand-alone drive, which would not be cheap.
I have found a lot of drives for the 360 on ebay around $40. The problem is that they say that you have to reflash it before It can be installed in the system. I have no idea what that is or how to do it.
What if I were to buy another 360 that had a working drive and put that one in my system. Would it still need to be reflashed to work or will it work in my system as well?
Yes you would! Each drive has a number key that attatches it to that console so that's why you need to flash that key to the new drive if you want it to work with your 360. Or what you can do is just buy a new drive and swap the mother boards between drives so that your original mother board would be on the new dvd drive. And the new dvd drives mother board would be in your old drive. That's the only way you can switch drives without flashing them. Drives cost about $40 on ebay and are easy to replace if you have the right tools to open your 360. But if your getting dirty disk errors or stuff like that you might want to look into replacing just the laser instead of the whole drive. It's all pretty simple I just fixed my 360 today by doing it this way.
