LOL! Gamespot benched the HD2900XT with Catalyst 7.4 which is known is a very *bad* driver it, 7.5 and the new 7.6 HUGLY improve the HD2900XT performance and it still have more to go. In this review (which includes the HD2900XT, GTS640, GTX....) they tested the HD2900XT with 7.5 and you can see how it fairs.
