This is Xbox!

Being somewhat of a 300 nut (have you guessed yet?) this video really made me chuckle.

Btw. Slow motion groin kicking for the win!

Oblivion-andon-andon

Dammit! I made the fatal mistake of putting the Oblivion CD in my 360. Four hours later and I realise I'm still running around completing quests, giggling like a derranged idiot. How long can I hold off before buying Shivering Isles? Not that long!

Sperm Whale Goes Boom!

Just when you think life is mundane you go and see a new story such as this...

Whale goes boom!

I'm just glad that wasn't my scooter covered in Whale intestines. Somebody is going to have a bad day. I've cleaned a lot of crap out of my motorbike, but never Whale guts. And I'd be hard pushed to think of a situation where I'd ever need to. Then again, I bet that's what the owner of the moped thought.

Tit For Tat

So Sony has finally arrived here in good old blighty. Perhaps predictably the queues weren't quite as long or frenzied as the Xbox360 or Wii release days. This is probably due to the price point and that there really aren't any PS3 games which would lure you into a hasty and expensive purchase.

What has been interesting this week has been the simmering undercurrent of PR games that Sony and Microsoft have been playing. I'm sure it's no coincidence that rumours started circulating of insecurities in the Xbox Live service. In fairness to Microsoft they struck back with a stroke of pure genius in the form of a tower of beer sent to a game journalist's office highlighting the difference in price between the 360 and the PS3 (Fosters though? - come on! You can do better!!). Although I did chuckle to see that on the very web page showing the pictures of the beer stacked in CVG's office, Sony had obviously shelled out some money to place a nice big banner ad for 'Resistance Fall of Man' across the top of the page.

There's no doubt that there should be many PS3's sat on shelves this week waiting for someone to buy them. If Sony could just give me a solid reason to do so, I'd happily comply. But right now I'd much rather buy a Wii over a PS3 - well, assuming I could actually find one!

Ubuntu

There have been many occasions over the years where I've *REALLY* tried to like Linux. I've read many articles where various flavours of the OS were hailed as the next big thing.

But the fact remains that despite the moaning of it's insecurities and flaws, most of us are willing to put up with windows because it's what we are familiar with. It's compatible with all our hardware, it plays the games we like and we all know how to resolve those silly little day to day problems that crop up from time to time (remove programs, install or update drivers etc.).

Linux on the other hand is an uphill struggle from the get go. There are lots of different distributions and depending who you ask, you'll probably be told ten different conflicting opinions on any version of Linux you care to choose. Although Linux has become more user friendly to install over time (I remember having to install it via command line and compiling the kernel by hand!) it's the day to day use that is still somewhat of a struggle. I don't know how to install programs, update drivers and I can't run any of my games on it! It's probably one of those situations where knowing nothing is actually an advantage. I've got 15 years worth of Microsoft brainwashing acting against me whenever I try and do something which doesn't involve a Start button.

Having said all that I'm quite keen to give Ubuntu a whirl. From what I've seen it's easier to get to grips with than previous Linux Distro's and comes with a lot of applications included which are actually of use rather than just being 'filler'.

Stay tuned for further installments of my Linux experiment!

It's full of stars!

I've spent a large proportion of the weekend sat in front of my oblisk-esque (I think I just made a new word) 40" tv. Can't believe I've been using my 360 on anything less all this time!

I took a break away from it on Saturday to enjoy the final leg of the Six Nations tournament. Have to say, wasn't really expecting Wales to pull it out of the bag against England given their current form - but my word what a turn around! Well done lads. And James Hook - you're my hero!!!

I nipped into town on Sunday and bought MotoGP. Being a bit of an all around motorcycle enthusiast I'm really not sure why I didn't buy it sooner! Looks like a good game although somewhat difficult to get to grips with initially. I've spent more time in the gravel than .

I'm quite close to finishing Crackdown off - still striving for those agility orbs! Come on level 4!!!!

Snow?! It's the end of the world!

If you live in the UK, there's a good chance you woke up to a nice white blanket of snow this morning.

And as per usual the country grinds to a complete halt because we've experienced a weather condition which isn't calssed as light drizzle or mild sunshine. This morning I'm sat at my desk staring at a largely empty office due to people 'not being able to venture in'. And most of these people live less than 10 miles away from the office.

Tish and piffle I say! As a nation I'm sure we're all pre-programmed to run around in blind panic as soon as the first snow flake hits the ground. What is it about our culture that just can't adapt to slightly above normal climate conditions?

Hot weather - Widespread drought.
Snow - No transport.
Heavy Rain - Flooding.
High winds - Call it a tornado.

Buh Bye Virgin.net

I'm finally free from the shackles of oppression that was Virgin broadband. Truly there can only be one thing worse than no broadband.. slow broadband!

I put my lovely bandwidth to good use by downloading the Crackdown demo on Xbox Live. Eventhough I played Saint's Row to death, I still can't get enough of the old 'roam around a city and shoot things' type game. The super hero angle is interesting and I can see that it'd be quite addictive building up your super abilities.

Definately a game that'll find it's way into my collection at some point.
