I can't say much for PoP cause I've never played it but I do like the idea for a bowser level.

How about instead of everyone getting a super attack, some people just get powered up for a certain period of time.  An example would be Pit.  He could get his treasures and weapons like the fire arrows, protective crystals, sacred armor, and light arrows.

If I had to get rid of 5 characters they would be

1. Pichu

2. Dr. Mario

3. Ice Climbers

4. Young Link but replace him with Link from Wind Waker

5. hmm can't think of anyone else really
