Back to a 96 on Metacritic, so I dug out my Switch and copy of Tears of the Kingdom out of the garbage can. I like it again because it’s back at 96.

Disco Elysium deserves that 97. Haven’t played Elden Ring. Souls games aren’t my forte, but I will give them another chance one day.

The top two games of the year on Metacritic are Nintendo Switch exclusives, a six-year old system with “outdated tech,” and that probably won’t change. That’s Nintendo quality. They’re probably my top two games of the year as well.

@hardwenzen: I threw away my copy and my Switch as soon as I saw the score drop. I’ve decided I’m going to only play games with a 99 or higher on Metacritic, so that means that for the rest of my life, I’m only playing these games:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

If you had any dignity, you’d do what I’m doing.

@ConanTheStoner: That’s a very intriguing take on what separates Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom from other Zelda games yet what also makes them quintessentially “Zelda.” I hadn’t thought of it in that way before, not to that depth. I see a lot of people talk about how the new Zelda games “aren’t Zelda,” but you have a convincing argument.

Played it on Steam Deck last year. Charming little game. Recommend it to Xbox players.

@Star67: It’s all individual opinion. I think Skyward Sword is great but a “lesser” traditional Zelda game, but Twilight Princess is a classic. A lot of people enjoy it more now than they did when it was first released. Even this site upped the score on the Wii U remaster to a 9, compared to the original releases’ scores of 8.8 and 8.9. I want to buy a Wii U again just to replay it. The dungeons and art direction were top notch.

But again, a lot of people would disagree with me, and that’s okay.

Only Nintendo fans have nostalgia, especially for a game like Tears of the Kingdom, which is exactly like every Zelda game ever made. Do something new, Nintendo. Geez.

Tempting, but I would have to sell my Steam Deck and then shell out a couple hundred more…but tempting.

Everyday. I drink zero calorie soda, though. Had a caffeine free, diet Mountain Dew already today. If I do have a can of soda that has calories, I make room for it in my diet. I’m not fat. You can enjoy a fizzy drink if you have limitations.

When I travel, I like to find a shop that sells all kinds of wacky soda flavors and give them a try.
