The sword might just be a surprise, so he didn't want to reveal it yet. It may be one different from the Mmaster sword. There also exists the possibility that he just doesn't have his own sword, which is a valid asumption.

They should be working on something, maybe the Metroid trilogy or some new game that has just not been announced yet.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way too. If they decide to release another Mario game, they may not be willing to take risks, which can really affect the Wii.
