People should just stop asking WHY they did this comparison. The answer is simple. PC's are gaming platforms (among other things), just like consoles are gaming platforms, and PC's deserve to be compared. Not -EVERYONE- may know that a PC wins. If they didn't already know that, now they do and thus, this article has helped them decide what to spend their money on based on that persons' own needs. Just because YOU already know something doesn't mean everyone does.
PC's... better textures.. better lighting.. better framerate... Yeah.. a 800-1000 dollar investment is what's needed, but it's money much more wisely spent. Bottom line.
Quit calling this comparison a joke. It's a perfectly valid comparison. This article isn't to say "Lol... You suck, Consoles. Look at what PC can do!" It's to COMPARE them. If I am a person with a good PC, a 360 and a PS3, and I don't already know that PC will win, and I come here, I am going to see which system I should buy a game for. Also, quit asking WHY they did this comparison. PC's are a gaming platform (among other things) and deserve to be compared to other gaming platforms, regardless of price.
For the record, you would not need a $2000 PC to get the performance of a PS3. $800-$1000 bucks would do it. But yes, a PC at the same price of a PS3 would NOT rival the PS3 in graphics. However, you get a lot more when buying a PC.
A decent PC is always going to look better than a 360 or PS3, and most likely will continue to be #1 in graphics quality, even with next gen consoles. If you don't already have a PC, and want one, then yes, It WILL be more expensive than a console, but you will get a lot more out of it. I am personally a PC gamer, but as a gamer, having a console is a must because of games that do not get released on PC. As for this comparison, I agree with the fact that PC shouldn't be compared to the consoles. Consoles cannot compare. At the same time, I -AM- glad to see PC being compared to the consoles for one reason. People who don't know how much better games look/perform on a PC can see what they are missing out on, and perhaps will try to get a PC. The PC gaming market could use more people.
Yes pyth. From a gamers aspect, ANY MICROSOFT OS is better than OSX, because, as you know, OSX SUCKS FOR GAMING. That having been said. Both OS's are very usable. I agree with you. But.. you know how all the Mac fans are on here going "Wahh my PC got all kinds of spyware and viruses and I used XP and the beta of Vista.. but so many viruses and spyware i bought a mac." ?? Well. Thats because whoever was using the PC was a noob. I'm not arguing whether or not Vista is better for gaming than OSX. It clearly is. I hate Mac, and in no way do I suggest someone buy one. And yes, Mac hardware used to be crap until recently they became Intel based. The funny thing is, when you buy a Mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, you are spending WAY too much on that Intel Core 2 Duo. If you went to Newegg.com and looked at a price for an equivalent Core 2 Duo, you would pay less for it. Mac rips people off.
Goobs. Vista most likely will be just as good as Mac OSX -IF- you are an experienced PC user. If you're not, then don't try and use Vista. You will only screw things up. Also, you can't really compare Vista to a Macbook or a G5. Those 2 terms are only describing the hardware of the Mac. A Macbook has basic laptop hardware. G5 has PC hardware... it just runs a Mac operating system. If you get a Macbook, or a G5, you will be spending too much money on PC hardware. An operating systems' performance is based on the user. A crappy analogy: If Windows Vista is a bicycle without training wheels, and you are 1 year old, you are going to regret trying. If Windows Vista is a BMX and you are a pro freestyle biker like Matt Hoffman... you'll be just fine. If Mac OSX is a baby safety car seat, and you are 1 year old, you'll fit in just fine. Now, if the Mac OSX is a baby safety car seat and you are pro freestyle biker MATT HOFFMAN... you're going to be really bored with it, and not fit in it at all.
ReggieNametaker, Macs ARE, in fact, overpriced. I've proven it to many people. You say that you get what you pay for with a Mac. You don't. For 1500 dollars you can get an iMac 20". For 1450 you can get a PC with a 20" monitor, a blatantly superior video card, literally double the memory, literally double the hard drive space and a better processor. To me, that quite obviously shows you that Macs ARE overpriced. I've done the same experiments with other Macs. The PC's are ALWAYS superior, and for less money most of the time. So, that said, it doesn't matter if you want OSX or Windows or Linux. You can put your favorite Mac OS on the PC hardware. What doesn't make sense there? I would personally put XP and Ubuntu on it... the fact remains. You buy a prebuilt Mac from Apple, your wallet is literally getting raped. These are the facts. Do the research. I have, and every time, PC's are a much wiser choice.
ROFL. Mac users. What a joke. Gamespot isn't going to do a review on the new OS X. You know why? IT'S NOT FOR GAMERS. It will support... ohhh... 3 games. Not worth Gamespots time. If Macs and OS X were so awesome, they would have as huge of a market as PCs but they don't, because people DON'T LIKE THEM. People know that Macs cost a lot to have worked on, the work must be done by CERTIFIED technicians (or the warranty is void) and hardware costs more. Whereas with PC's, hardware is cheap, easily attainable, and individual hardware have warranties. OCZ ram for example. LIFETIME warranty and it won't be voided if you decide to up the voltage to a degree. They cover overclocking in their warranty. Seagate hard drives. Awesome warranty. You so much as OPEN a Mac and they realize it, your warranty is gone on the whole thing. GOOD STUFF. As for PCs getting viruses and spyware and Macs NOT? I run a Windows XP machine with NO virus protection and NO spyware protection. I scan for both maybe once a month. Guess what. I've NEVER had a virus or spyware. So, for you Mac users who switched to Mac because your PC's always got viruses and spyware.... you are a noob. Sorry to say it, but you are. If I can NEVER get a virus or spyware WITHOUT virus protection and spyware protection, and you do WITH virus and spyware protection, then you are a noob. Plain and simple. Stability? I never have crashes. EVER. If you did, it's because you didn't know enough about PCs. Learn to use your computer before bragging about your dumbed out Mac. Macs don't get viruses and spyware because nobody bothers to make viruses or spyware for them. Why? Because there are like.. 1 Mac to every 20 PC's or some ludicrous number like that. Nobody CARES about your overpriced computer except you. Everyone else just thinks your a moron for bragging about it, and we all know you spent too much money for it.
