Anecdotal, but I've yet to meet a single person who cares about this franchise. Some try to defend it meekly, but you can tell even they don't really care that much about it. So I have no clue how the first game sold that many units. PS4 console bundle, maybe?
They don't really have a choice. Nintendo doesn't want to chase graphics, they want to make games that age well. The only way for them to do that without saying it, was to exit the console market quietly and release a handheld with HDMI out, then use clever marketing and naming to act like it's a home console that you can take on the go.
But where do they go from there? They are stuck in the handheld market now. They can add mouse functionality to the joy-cons, they can refine this and that, but it's never going to feel fresh because it's the same overall concept again.
This console will probably still sell well by default, just from not having terrible marketing and from being a straight upgrade (no reason to own a Switch 1 anymore), but at the same time, I don't expect it to outsell the Switch 1, simply because the perceived novelty is no longer present. Not that sales matter to me, if they make good games for it I'll buy it, and if they don't I won't.
@epitaph: I think we were both kinda wrong, it does look pretty orange after all. But it's a pretty specific color between red and orange, so it can come out looking more orange than it is through certain video codecs, so you were right about that.
I liked the trailer for how slick it was, great use of sound effects to add charm etc. Still doesn't make me want the thing until I see the new games though. They better blow us away then, because that Mario Kart footage has me worried.
Although upon closer inspection, some of the character designs do seem a bit different. DK looks more like he does in the movie, and if you look closely, Peach looks more like she did in Mario Kart 64, with her hair down and looking more golden instead of yellow. There's probably been some small improvements to the lighting and shadow quality, and there might be 24 player races, but still, overall, nothing super drastic at a glance. You could easily mistake this footage for Mario Kart 8 and that does bother me. I want to see new stuff, I don't want a repeat of the last decade.
Hmm. Wish they showed games today but I guess we have to wait two and a half more months for that. If that's Mario Kart 9, it sure looked like Mario Kart 8 2 to me, but we'll have to see what new twist they've got cooking for it.. I can't say I'm very excited for it yet based on that small snippet though. It legit looks the exact same as a game I played in 2014. C'mon Nintendo, don't screw this up...
I hope it means that the eShop will be cleaned up a bit and some of the trash no one wants will remain on Switch 1.
Ok so apparently it's because of peripheral incompatibility, so like the Ring Fit stuff wouldn't work, and they don't have the IR sensor in the new joy-con so things like 1-2 Switch also won't work.
@captainwonton: Anyone can farm runes and cheese any fight with magic and summons in Elden Ring, but with Donkey Kong you have to lock in and get good.
@restatbonfire: Technically he didn't take off any points, the 3DS version received a 7/10 from GameSpot and this game is based on that version. (Tom Mc Shea was wrong then too)
I normally couldn't care less about remakes and remasters, but I do have interest in the Trails in the Sky remake and will probably check out MGS Delta. I don't think Ubisoft has the talent or capacity to make a Splinter Cell game anymore but if they did, I would also play that.
