Valve doesn't care about modders getting their fair share, they want the money made from other people's hard work. To make it worse there were no checks and balances when they tried the first time where people were profiteering off the resources used by other modders who supported free mods. This won't end well.

What made Star Trek interesting is that it didn't simply focus on one character, each episode would have perspectives and issues involving different crew members. One main character really sounds like a step back than a step forward.
