alright, just for the hell of it, I will present an argument from the best explanation.

Fact 1: Jesus was crucified and entombed

Fact 2: the Tomb of Jesus was empty

Fact 3: There was a guard present at the tomb

Fact 4: Jesus appeared to the twelve

Fact 5: Jesus appeared to James, brother of Jesus, who was a skeptic.

Fact 6: Jesus appeared to Paul, who was also a skeptic. a major persecuter of the early christian church I might add.

Fact 7: Christianity spread rapidly throughout the Roman empire soonafter the life of Jesus

Conclusion: If one accepts the possibility of the existence of the supernatural, the resurrection of Jesus is the best explanation for the 7 aformentioned facts.

The flaw with this argument is that it all just comes from one source, the bible, which can't be quoted as historiography :P

before you can dismiss the historical reliability of the Gospels or Epistles, you have to actually explain why being canonized makes a document unreliable.

Well, to paraphrase the movie "Zeitgeist". There were many historians that lived around the area during the time. How many of them mention Jesus? Not one of them. How could a man that performed so many miracles not make it into the historical records?

BTW, contemporary sources for ancient history are not needed.
