Another Wii Related Post.

This is strictly for entertainment. I don't know how good a PS3 since I don't own one. I've seen em work at my friend's house, so I will say that graphically they stomp on the Wii. I've seen Blu-Ray, and with what's going on in that whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray format war, I have to say owning a Blu-Ray player for a few hundred bucks (as opposed to near a $1000) AND being able to play games is pretty awesome. The Wii...well, you can get weather updates...yeah, I'm SO looking forward to Smash Bros. Brawl, Ghostbusters, and Mario Kart.

EDIT UPDATE: Since I apparently can't post videos in here yet (or I'm too stupid to figure it out) go to youtube.com and search PS3 vs. Wii. I guarantee your funny bone will be tickled.

How I got MY Wii.

First of all, I've had my Wii since the time Warioware: Smooth Moves debuted. I'm not posting this entry to brag that I have the system (check my prof real quick and you'll see how I feel about the Wii overall), but instead to tell you all how I acquired MY system. I've read half-baked schemes and "guides" to getting one, but here is the simple reality of it:

I live in SAN DIEGO...a place BOOMING with people. I bought my Wii when they were still relatively new (because they're still relatively hard to get!). Every Sunday the ads come in my newspaper. I saw that many stores in my area (Circuit City, Target, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc.) were going to be receiving a limited quantity of Wii systems that would go on sale as soon as the store opened. Now, what I already knew about this advertising plan is that some stores, though they sell promptly when those sliding glass doors yawn open, force earlybirds who actually put in the effort of getting there early to take numbers in a form of lottery where they may or may not get a system. This is to be "fair" to those who slog out of bed AT 8:30 A.M.

However, I knew that Toys R Us was not this kind of store from an experience years ago when Pokemon cards were a rarity. Toys advertised that they would have a MINIMUM OF 20 SYSTEMS per store, so I left my house AT 8:30 A.M. to get there at the opening hour of 9:00 A.M. (or I left at 9:30 to get there at the opening of 10:00...I can't remember what time they open). There were about eight people (all parents) lined up, so I waited until five minutes before store opening before I got in line. At this point there were around 14 of us. We received our vouchers, and went straight to the videogame department to make our purchase.

So there it is: Look for stores advertising the Wii in your weekly circular (or call and ask about shipments if you want to put in the extra legwork), pick a store that doesn't partake in lotteries (i.e. Toys), get there EARLY ENOUGH TO WHEN THE STORE IS GOING TO OPEN, and there you have it. There wasn't even a minimum purchase when I went, so I feel foolish now for only buying one!!! Who woulda thought getting a Wii would still be this difficult?
