I believe one of the main reasons they broke up was because everyone in the band was kind of tired of dealing with Zach de la Rocha's too far political views and wanted to make music less political and just angry at the "machine" all the time... I know soon after Rage was no more, Tom Morello starting playing country/folk music... So I just think the band needed a break from all of that.

I'm also not sure if you know, but I'm fairly certain that Rage will be doing more touring... This is from Wikipedia...
