@AggrandizedUser Not saying it's right but Lara Croft in the past has been used as a video game sex icon - by the devs, by the publishers, by the public. I love the new style and direction but Lara Croft is still a figure of objectification for many, many gamers (not just guys).
Will that ever not be the case? Not sure. But those comments are not surprising at this time.
Danny, I get really sick of hearing people complain about sexism in gaming - but the way you put it made sense and didn't come across as preachy and annoying.
If more people put a positive spin on addressing issues like you do, I don't think there would be so much backlash... whatever the topic is.
edit: And I'm going to go upvote Depression Quest right now. Not because I want to play it, but because maybe somebody else might need to.
Not caring where money came from as long as it goes to a good cause?
Am I the only one that remembers when the Child's Play charity stopped accepting donations from the Retake Mass Effect Movement?
Where money comes from is a VERY big deal. By just accepting money, you become attached to that organization.
For example: If Red Cross became the official charity of the Puppy Killer and White Supremacist Organizations, it would actually tarnish their reputation.
Many charities will not accept donations from certain groups because of this - that is a fact. People having an opinion about EA making donations and making a public spectacle of it are completely entitled to their opinions. Saying otherwise just sounds... well, stupid.
Now, as far as I'm concerned, EA did a good thing here. I don't hate EA - I just hate their business practices. I'm also glad they supported Humble Bundle and brought attention to these much needed charities. I do not, however, feel that they did this from the goodness in their hearts. The people you made fun of and ridiculed in this video may not write very eloquently but some of their opinions are not very far from the truth.
EA has always and will always care about one thing - their bottom line. That's not to say they don't have good, caring people in their organization (I happen to know a couple) but the very greed-based nature of their company will always supersede generosity and goodness.
I enjoyed the show, Jess! Very cool style and topic.
I still don't see a point to getting one of the new consoles with PC's available but maybe when the console exclusives start rolling out. Last of Us, Uncharted etc.
