I'm not sure if it is released in the Americas yet, but in Europe, instead of the Play-Yan (which is apparently an MP4 player) we had the Nintendo MP3 Player. It is not expensive (only £20) but an SD memory card is needed to use it. I have one and though it has good sound quality, the only problem is that the only format that works on it is MP3. So WMA's etc. don't work.
