@regnaston: You can stream all games on PS Now but only download the PS4/5 games, and Game Pass you can download all the games but can only stream some of them. But PSNow is $60/y and Game Pass is like $120 and Ultimate is like $180 or something? I can't see the price

Game Pass Ultimate includes Xbox Live Gold and EA Play. So it's like PSNow ($60/yr) + PSPlus ($60/yr)+ EA Play ($30/yr).

Game Pass Ultimate is $180/yr (or you can get up to 3 years for $180 if you do the Xbox Live Gold upgrade). The rough equivalent on PlayStation is $150/yr.

Of course, Game Pass Ultimate includes day-one releases, monthly perks and PC support, which the Sony offering doesn't have.

No.

In fact Halo was on the making for Mac and PS2 when MS bought Bungie.

One major reason Halo was so successful was because it was the game to buy with your new Xbox, and it took full advantage of things like the hard drive and built-in ethernet for system link capability. On PS2, it would have been just another game by a developer you'd never heard of (unless you had a Mac), with no system link and much smaller, claustrophobic levels thanks to no hard drive to cache data on. It's hard to imagine it would have achieved anywhere close to the same success on PS2 that it did on Xbox.

FTC review is normal. That Is what they are there for. Non-issue.

/Thread

Is normal but that doesn't mean is a non issue, specially when it comes to MS.

This isn't you average purchase this is a huge buy that could result in MS calling all the shots in more than 1 way, from hurting the free competition to increase prices for the consumers, monopolies are never good.

I think it will pass but is not a sure thing.

In fact AT&T try to buy Tmobile back in 2011 and the Antitrus division of the department of justice filed a lawsuit, that forced AT&T to stop the bid to buy them, that was for 39 billions, this deal is for 70 billions one is close to double that of AT&T.

So you can expect that there will be some resistance, i don't see sony opposing the deal, but if the do and nintendo as well do they may halt it.

But how i seeing things, i think gamepass will be everywhere from xbox to PS to switch or what ever come next from nintendo as well as TV and set up boxes.

The worst potential outcome from this anti-trust review is some kind of ruling that orders ABK not to restrict content from competing platforms it has historically supported (meaning PlayStation) for 5-10 years or something. But they'll still let the deal go through.

@Pedro: but it was bungie that put Xbox on the map. I'm saying this to a Xbox fan that is calling bungie a one hit wonder company. I get Xbox funded it.

Bungie is not a one hit wonder of a company.

AND it was Xbox who put Bungie on the map. The success of both entities were mutual and interconnected. Bungie is known for two games series.

Without Xbox, I imagine Bungie would have continued languishing in obscurity making games for MacOS, at least until Apple decided to basically abandon the MacOS gaming market.

The Microsoft/Activision deal will sail through. Microsoft can point to several reasons why it won't pose an anti-trust threat. They didn't yank Minecraft from competing platforms when they bought Mojang. They didn't yank Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo when they bought Bethesda. And the single biggest property in the Activision/Blizzard/King portfolio, Candy Crush, is primarily a mobile game that sells on platforms that Microsoft does not control.

Sony should grab Konami. The dev/publisher might be mega trash, but they do have really fitting IP's for sony. Imagine a Castlevania game created the same way GoW2018. That would be juicy.

Sony can't afford Konami. Konami makes tons of money selling pachinko and slot machines, along with Bemani games.

To those questioning the value they see, Activision has an absolute ton of awesome ips that have gone dormant in the focus on CoD and milking the MTX.

Prototype, GUN, Kings Quest, Metal Arms, Project Gotham Racing, Tenchu, True Crime, etc

MS own the rights to PGR. It's dormant because MS are focusing on Forza Horizon.

Also, the draw was arcade racing through real locations, I'm not sure if that would be as exciting a game for gamers these days, for MS to cover the budget of the game.

Shit, this reminds me that Activision owns the rights to Blur. If Microsoft brings that franchise back and hands it to Playground Games... I'm nursing a chub just thinking about it. 😁

Warcraft and Starcraft are still huge franchises.

Just like Activision has absolutely no intention in making anything besides COD, Blizzard has no intention making anything in those two RTS franchises.

That doesn't mean those franchises don't carry any weight. If Microsoft announces a new, AAA Starcraft or Warcraft game exclusive to Game Pass platforms, it will absolutely move the needle.

I don’t see how this would be good for Microsoft. Call of Duty is on its way out and I don’t know if any Activision games that are worthwhile ATM. What could they possible want with them outside of labor?

Don't be silly. COD is still one of the best selling yearly games and Activision/Blizzard is a major player in the industry. Let us not pretend this is a trivial acquisition. This was a strategic move and a major one.

I'm not saying it's trivial. But obviously MS is going to put COD behind Gamepass and potentially cut off other platforms from it. How does that make MS the money it was making Activision? Especially with Call Of Duty declining in popularity and sales?

Do they have to remove it from other systems??

Or just make it available on GamePass as well.

As evidenced by the Bethesda acquisition, they will absolutely remove it from other systems. Contrary to popular belief, MS still believes in exclusives. They believe in ecosystem exclusives where you can only get games through them on a specific set of platforms. But these games were only as big because they were everywhere. So I'm just wondering how this makes them money if they go down the Bethesda route.

Let's not be too hasty. Microsoft bought Mojang, and Minecraft is still available on all gaming platforms. And it's possible that Sony still has an exclusive content deal for Call of Duty, which would mean that it would still come to PlayStation, at least for a while.

Well, this is dumb.

Activision only has one franchise: Call of Duty.

Apparently, that came with Blizzard and King so they get Overwatch Candy Crush and Diablo.

Ok, but name 3 more…

I love seeing so much chaos in the gaming world. People on the PS side are gonna have a real tough time with this one.

Warcraft and Starcraft are still huge franchises.
