JRPG by continents, oceans, and whole worlds. Most WRPGs have uninteresting characters and terrible stories imo.

redCloudJ7

Most ridiculous post I've read all week. And most jrpgs don't have horrible characters and stories?

Oh, please. With the exception of very few do any jrpgs even come within a mile of Planescape Torments story or characters.

There are more wrpgs with good stories and characters than jrpgs.

How many jrpgs have less than fifteen of the cliches listed:http://project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html

Most wrpgs have terrible stories and characters.......and jrpgs don't, yeah right.

That list is a load of nonsence, on most occasions I could think of 1 example of each of those. And the ones that are frequent are as stupid as "in platform games you jump" such as the one where it said there is a boss harder than the final boss that is hidden somewhere... well, of course, thats a good game feature, if there was no hidden bosses that are harder than the final boss then that's just lame

similarities? of al the JRPGs Ive played I dont recall there being any similarities, none that are worthy of mentioning anyway

Nirron

Be prepared to be bombarded with the following hyperbole: Female protagonists posing as males with hair so spiky it hurts Always involves a save the world plot Pretty much asked for it though, as using the WRPG stereotypes willl invoke the wrath of JRPG stereotypes. Of course both are completely untrue, but they seem to exist in a state of simultaneous conflict and harmony.

I've heard the "spikey hair" and "effeminate male" arguments before, both of which are not true... I mean, lets look at even just final fantasy for example (as it's the prime suspect of this type of critisism), how many of those main characters characters have spikey hair?

Firion? No
Luneth? No
Cecil? No
Bartz? Not really
Terra? No
Cloud? Yes
Squall? No
Zidane? No
Tidus? No
Vaan? No

And as for effeminate, well only Vaan and Kuja that I can think of

well, you also got the WRPGs that are in the future with guns and stuff... but that doesnt change that its a pain to look at, I seriously cant take them seriously enough, when every character tries to be "super serious" I find it rather absurd

I'm not by any means saying that "WRPGs are bad games" cause I dont think they are... I just like JRPGs a lot more, a lot less generic

JRPGs by a long long way... they've actaully got stories that are not all generic LOTR clones (orcs and elves) and you have individual characters with personalities and "style"... and they actually are varied in their systems rather than just repeating the same themes over and over. They dont just chuck you in the middle of nowhere and call it "freedom"
