Art is the illusion of spontaneity. I suppose this is because we want people to think that it is easy for us? I think I get it, but I don't agree with it.

Beginning is easy, continuing is hard. Beginning is much harder. Continuing can be hard too, but beginning is WAY harder. LoL

If you believe everything you read, better not read. I think this one can go for TV as well.

One kind word can warm three winter months. But can it cancel school when it is negative one billion degrees outside?

When the character of the man is not clear to you, look at his friends. What if you don't have any?

Don't be ashamed of using an old plot. After all, there aren't that many. But make sure you take that plot and use it in a new and interesting way.

In my Tolkien class, we have been talking about exactly this lately. If you read through Tolkien from The Silmarillion to The Lord of the Rings, you will notice that every single character that falls to darkness is corrupted by want of power. Very often they receive that power, usually from an object (such as the Silmarils or the One Ring). That object then proceeds to corrupt them until they know nothing but lust for power. That's why the most heroic characters in Tolkien are the ones who resist that call to power. For instance, Aragorn chooses to become king, but only because he has to, not because he wants the power. Gandalf only uses his power to help others, even though he could wield an enormous amount of power over other people. An interesting tidbit to think about in the context of the quote.

Well, I'm Robin, and I've been on GS for a while now. I used to have my own union, but scrapped it when everyone stopped participating, though not until after a lot of effort on my part. I am currently a student at Western Michigan University with a major in English Literature and a minor in Medieval Studies. I plan to go back to graduate school after getting my undergraduate degree and get my PHD so I can teach at the college level. I am currently working at Circuit City (it pays the bills... sometimes), but my first ambition has always been to be a writer.

I write mostly fantasy, but I also write songs, poetry, academic essays, and stories with other themes. The majority of my planned novels are fantasy. I have an unhealthy obsession with vampires (I'm very pale). I am also interested in Ancient Egypt, anything that has to do with the paranormal, mythology/religion, and things like tarot cards, divination, astrology, and the like.

Other things I like to do in my free time include video games (obviously... I like mostly RPGs and survival horror), reading (favorite book is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien), listening to music (a wide variety), and watching movies (mostly fantasy, action, and horror, but show me anything and I'll give it a chance).

To talk to me, you can always find me on GS, or e-mail me at VestalDarkness@yahoo.com. I habitually check my e-mail, so that's probably the easiest way. I am also on Facebook, so check me out there if you like. If you want a little preview of my writing, my fanfiction is published at Fanfiction.Net. My web address is http://www.fanfiction.net/~vestaldarkness. Happy writing!

I do like Vincent, but I feel that he's sort of out of the loop as a character since he's optional and therefore not really considered a part of the final events of the game and such. I enjoy vampires and demons, so he is always a good choice for me. :)

LoL Well, as for the thread being sick and wrong, I disagree. Us girls have to our eye candy too! And besides, guys can talk about the guy characters they liked in terms of personality. It doesn't all have to be about looks. I posted in the girls thread, and trust me, I like guys.

You know, and now that you guys bring it up, you're right... the characters in VIII seem to be more masculine than most. Final Fantasy has a nice history of wussy guys and even wussier girls... hmm.

I couldn't resist... everyone always talks about the girls, but what about the boys?! Feel free to comment on looks, personality, and all around toughness. I'll try and keep a running total of favorites.

Well, I haven't finished FFXII, but Balthier won my heart over immediately. First of all, he's a pirate. Who can resist pirates? Second, he's sauve and sarcastic, and I like that. Great character and I'm looking forward to learning more about him.

As for games I've finished, I've always had a soft spot for Irvine in FFVIII, as well as the requisite love for Squall as the closed-off, lonely character. Auron was my favorite in FFX just because he was so amazingly cool. Never really cared for Tidus, though. Always thought he was kind of a sissy... and I'd like to knock Wakka out with his blitz ball. :D

I think it depends on the game... I enjoy the turn-based because it seems to rely more on strategy than luck. In the real-time battle system of FFXII, sometimes you don't realize you're dying until you're dead. LoL I haven't played much, though, so I'm sure I'll get better at it. I liked the turn-based systems of X and X-2, because in X you could switch people out whenever you wanted, and in X-2 the fast pace really made it exciting. Not being able to really control all the characters can get tedious, and sometimes the gambits don't seem to work as well as they should. I'll trust Square to keep us happy, though!

I always thought Tifa was just a little overdone. One of the things I like about most RPGs is that the females seem reasonably realistic. Tifa just looks like she should tip over in a strong wind blew by... I think she looked a lot better in Advent Children, though. I mean, there's nothing with being well-endowed. LoL Aeris, on the other hand, always drove me up the wall, so I did enjoy Tifa for her personality. I find Yuffie annoying until she makes her various appearances in KH and KHII. She seems to have calmed down a little by then.

Since VIII is my favorite, it's hard to choose, but Selphie is my favorite female in that one. She's bright, spunky, and always wants to do the right things. Plus she has a violent streak. I enjoy that. ;) Quistis is cool, but I think at times she borders on whiny, and Rinoa is another character that drives me up the wall because she's always begging to be rescued. Rescue yourself, woman!

I think Garnet is pretty cool in IX... she seems to have her head on straight. Eiko is a little annoying, but you can kind of forgive her for that because she's a kid. Although I don't know if anyone thinks of FFIX characters in the context of hot. Since they kind of look like kids, that might be slightly creepy... and Freya isn't human, so I don't know what anyone would think about her!

Yuna is probably my favorite overall Final Fantasy woman. She's sweet, kind, modest, and very strong. Lulu is a little too abrasive, though I'm sure her outfit please. The bending over whenever she won a battle was a little obvious. Rikku is also one of my favorite females because she reminds me of Selphie, and I suppose that Rikku and Selphie remind me of me. That would be personality-wise and not looks-wise. Yeah, it'd be nice to be that skinny. Paine is pretty cool in X-2, especially since she's got the obvious Squall look going on.

I'm warming up to Ashe in FFXII, mostly because she carries a big sword, and it's about time for a kick-butt sword-wielding woman in Final Fantasy! But I haven't played through the whole game yet, so I won't say much. I like Penelo and Fran so far too, but again, not enough information.

Well, that was rather long, but I though I'd make some comments that weren't just about their looks. ;)
