Future Blogs

I really haven't had a real topic to blog about in a while, and it's starting to bore me to have nothing to write about. I therefore am planning on doing some new lists, which is always fun, and perhaps a few more music blogs and poetry blogs.

I would like to do a list of my favorite death scenes in tv and movies, and I shall do it within a week, I think. And that brings me to another great piece of news: I have the next week off. It's time for our February Break, and I therefore have no lessons the entire week. This couldn't come at a better time, because the HUGE project me and two of my friends are working on is really starting to take form, and the core of the project (to make our own translations of a text) is supposed to be finished before school starts up again, and I really need the time off to do it.

Moreover, my tv-schedule is hectic, but oh so lovely. Most shows are back after the haitus, and the standards have really become greater. The lost episode last night was surprisingly good, and I think Lost might just become good again. Heroes is as great as always, Veronica Mars is also becoming much better. How I Met Your Mother and Ugly Betty are still hilarious and Desperate Housewives has really come back with a bang (pun definitely intended). I'm mightly enjoying Dirt, and looking forward to every episode. In the meanwhile, I've also managed to watch about nine episodes of Nip/Tuck and six of Studio 60, and I love them both. So everything tv-wise is great at the moment, which is a nice change, seeing as the entire 2006 was pretty bad in general.

Take Care, yo!

It's that time of the year...

It's that time of the year. All Swedes go into a frenzy, waiting for Saturday Night, discussing it with every human being they can get hold of, buying ridiculously much popcorn and reading anything they can find about it. It's time for: MELODIFESTIVALEN: :o

For those of you not familiar with the concept, Melodifestivalen (translated "the melody festival") is one of the biggest traditions in Sweden. It's a music competition spread out over five weeks, in which we all decide which song will participate for Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in May. It's one huge cornfest, which no one admits to liking, but everyone watches and adores nevertheless. All the songs are usually sucky, all the clothes are ridiculous and everything about it is just cheesy: but it's so nice. It's every Swede's guilty pleasure. And tomorrow it's time again.

The first quarterfinal is held tomorrow, and all the people in Sweden will sit in their sofas, ridiculing and laughing at the songs, and loving music they normally hate. Ah traditions.

----

Also, I'd like to officially announce that I, not at all influenced by Adam's recent blog :P, have decided to give Nip/Tuck a try. I think I'll really like it. Otherwise, when it comes to tv, I'm up to date with both Ugly Betty and How I Met Your Mother, and my next project is Studio 60, which I'm really liking so far. Picking up Nip/Tuck, however, will result in my postponing Dexter, but I think I'll live

Grammis

Last night the Swedish Grammis Awards (the Swedish version of the Grammy Awards) were held. As usual it was a very embarassing mess, with bad hostesses, drunk band members with long and awkward thank you speeches. But there were some good aspects of the evening.

First off, wonderful Singer-Songwriter Anna Ternheim whom I adore got two awards.

Secondly, The Knife, my favorite band at the moment, and to be frank, at most moments, was nominated for six awards and won them all. :) So, to celebrate, I decided to dedicate a blog to their victory, and post three different band's videos fetaturing Karin Dreijer Andersson (the singer of The Knife).

Honey Is Cool - Nach Heart

The Knife - Silent Shout

Röyksopp - What Else Is There?

Also, I have started to watch Ugly Betty, and I love it. I will definitely continue to watch it.

Alice In Videoland

I would like to dedicate this blog to the wonderful Swedish band called Alice In Videoland. Besides having one of the best band names ever, they create awesome music.

It's like a mix between synthpop, EBM, rock and pop. Whenever I feel sad or tired, I just put on AiV, and it's the perfect cure. I just love them so much. I saw them live this summer, and they were awesome. I've never seen any band have that energy on stage.

Plus, the band's so pretty.

Snowy, Snowy, Snow

Well, this is for my recent Swedish Stereotype blog. Who was I kidding? I live in a perfect sterotype of Sweden. I mean: Look at all this snow!!! (Which also reveales the horrible secret that is my glasses. Don't worry, I normally wear contacts.)

This winter we have been very underfed when it comes to snow. We had a lot of snow during two days in October/November, but since, we've only had snow a couple of days here and there before it snowed away. But now, it's snowing like hell. There is snow, snow, snow everywhere! And it's frickin' cold. :D But I love it. Though, I must say I'm a bit pissed at the weather Gods. I mean, where was all this wonderful whiteness when we really wanted it around Christmas, but potius sero quam numquam, I guess.

Finally, I would also like to say that I finished watching The Comeback, and I was just blown away by it. The finale was just so heartbreaking, and yet empowering in some twisted way. I felt so bad for Valerie, and I hated Paulie G with a passion I haven't had for anyone else. Ever! And yet, I felt good for her when she became a success. I also started watching How I Met Your Mother, and I'm hooked. It is the new Friends. And anything with Alyson in it is a must-see.

Stress Release

The last six months have no doubt been the most stressful months of my entire life. School has been insane, because apparently my last year in the mandatory school years, after 11 long years of studying, have to end with my becoming burnt out. I now only have five months left until my sweet freedome (if only temporary) finally comes. I have realized that my only way of releasing all the stress is having a tv-series to watch before I go to sleep. I know I sound so geeky and lazy, but it's really great. But lately I have become sick and tired of re-watching the same old series over and over again. So, therefore, I have decided to start up a flood of new shows to watch.

Ao far, I have started to watch Scrubs (which I've always been a fan of, but have just watched every now and then), Dirt (which actually, so far, has been great - one of the best shows on air right now) and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I was really doubtful towards the lastter, as it didn't seem like my kind of show at all, and to tell you the truth, I was less than impressed when I started to watch the Pilot. I was like: How could this score a 9.2 at tv.com? But then: enter Matthew Perry, and I was loving it! It looks really promising.

I am also planning on, and by planning I mean hoping I will have the diciplin to, starting to watch Dexter, Ugly Betty and How I met Your Mother. Hopefully, this will be a great way for me to relax. And I don't have to worry about cathing all of these shows on the TV, as most of them don't air here in Sweden. That's the one good thing about living here, and watching all the episodes on the computer: I can decide when I want to watch the episodes.

What's with the prejudice?

So, I was just watching a few episodes of The Comeback, and I'm really starting to love that series. Anyway, I was reading a bit about it here on tv.com and stumbled upon Malin Akerman (who plays Juna on The Comeback). Apperantly, she was born in Sweden, and moved to Canada when she was three. And on her site, there was this quote about her doing nudity in television saying: "I don’t really have an issue with showing certain parts of my body. I’d rather not, but it’s not a big deal. Growing up in Sweden, it’s natural over there."

And I just got so mad. What's up with the prejudice? I know that Swedes have a reputation about being exhibitionists, and overly sexual, having nudity in every film we do, and I can't figure out where these things come from. It's actually a known fact that Swedes are very shy, and quite frankly: rather timid. Although we do see more lightly on nudity in television and film, it's not like we htrow off our clothes all the time, and for someone who has lived here in two years, before she could remember anything about anything, to say that it's a natural thing really pisses me up. So enough with the Sweden bashing, already!

Zombie

A few days ago I got my version of Final Fantasy XII, which is so great, because it hasn't even been released in Europe yet. I love it very much, and I play it whenever I get the chance to.

Today, I only had one lesson (as do I every second week :) ) but my teacher was sick today, so it was cancelled. :D So I spent my day playing FFXII and watching Halloween 4 (which I, surprisingly, really liked).

I love the new icon thingies

Isn't mine just the prettiest thing you've ever seen? I think so.

And I have another, rather horrifying, anouncment to make. I'm totally rewatching Charmed right now, and I'm loving it! :O I haven't watched it since Forever Charmed aired in May, and I haven't really felt like watching it either, but the other day I saw my DVD boxes, and started watching Season 2, and now I can't stop. I had forgotten how good it was in the good old days.

Another surprise I recently had, and still am having, is the greatness of Lost's second season. I remember hating it when it first aired. I thought it was dull and slow moving, and I got so frustrated at all the questions and mysteries just becoming more, and never getting answered, but now that I rewatch it, I love it. The series is so much more enjoyable when you watch the episodes very close together.

Rejoice while in misery

Right now, I'm in a rather confused state. I am really sick, and have spent four days coughing and sniveling, with mad headaches and troathaches from hell. So naturally, I'm not overly happy. But then, yesterday, I found out the start of the Spring term has been delayed. There have been some serious rebuilding going on at our school since this summer, and phase one was supposed to be finished by monday when we start. There have been some problems, though, and they are not finished. So instead of beginning again at monday, we begin at wednesday. I know it doesn't seem like much of a difference, but believe me; when you've spent two weeks dreading monday, and counting the days til it comes, you get very happy when you get two extra days without school. Futhermore, I had a huge psychology paper due Tuesday (which I'm not nearly to done with) and now I don't have to hand it in until Friday. Yay.

Moreover, I'm in a real slasher mood right now, and watched Scream and Scream 2 the other day. They're so fabulous. If anyone has a good corny slasher flick, feel free to reccomend it.

Also, I realized it's been ages sicne I posted a Weekly Top Artist List, so I figured I'd post my Overall Top Artist List. Yay.

I also just realized I've never posted a Swedish viedo here, so I figured I might as well. I know the quality is horrible, and the hairdo is horrible, but it is from the '80s. It's sung by Marie Fredriksson, one of Sweden's best singers, in my opinion. I know it's conry, but I just love this song. So enjoy.
