My mom used to be that way too and to some degree, so did my dad because I was playing Hitman/Splinter Cell and then I showed them the RTS' I've played (C&C 3 right now along with COH). To my mom I said "Yeah, and I think those weak little romance shows you watch all the time aren't healthy either" and to my dad I said "I've never owned a gun yet you have all your M1 Garands and Russian/German Mausers under my bed". Sure I watch war movies like BHD, SPR with combat movies like Basic, Negotiator and others and yeah, there's a bunch of real bad ones like the whole SAW series which I have, White Noise, Ring 1 & 2...but damn, it's a freaking MOVIE. I have comedy and inspirational movies and such too so this focusing on violence and thinking I'll turn into something like that is f'ing annoying. Fortunately, they stopped.
I've had a few friends that'd do the same. I'm a pc gamer through-and-through so I can't (and don't) offer anything for console games but when it comes to pc FPS/RTS/MMO/Strategy, I'm normally the one they'll come to because they don't usually keep up with any reviews, ratings, etc. Some don't even bother using google to find any site! I don't mind, especially if they listen but there's a few who'd buy it anyways when I'd tell them about the demo/reviews/etc and then complain how it was a waste of time. Do it once, sure...do it repeatedly and I just tell someone "waste your time, not mine because you won't listen anyways". But I generally never try to tell someone what they should or shouldn't play, that's for sure.
Way bigger than our measly little minds can possibly comprehend. Considering the light from the stars that we see supposedly is millions of light years away and we can't even get to Mars without taking 6 months one-way, it's not like we're going to investigate much.
Pretty sad that we've spent more time and effort looking into space and seeing things than we have our oceans. That whole vacuum versus compression thing, yeah I know...
WOW if you want tons of questing, a huge playerbase no matter which server you pick, pretty good pvp (battlegrounds, that is), plenty of customization depending on which race/class you pick with talents, and a current level 70 cap. Guild Wars if you want instant-travel, limited questing with pretty good AI (from what I've been told), the ability to create a top-level character right away and instantly go into pvp (that's the main goal of GW I believe) but according to my roomie, there was very little content at the time he played it. Star Wars Galaxies, which was great when it first came out (I was a master Teras Kasi / Master Ranger) but I don't have any idea on how it is now with all the changes over the past three years. EQ 2, but I've never played it so you might check out the forums.
