Life After E3

Of course, that first week home after an extravagant vacation is, at best, dull and depressing. Video game news after E3 is no different.

Half the fun of playing video games as an adult is the discovery and anticipation of new gaming entertainment -- that is, new games, features, mechanics. E3 gave gamers (both core and casual) plenty to look forward to. No doubt. Butwe need a constant stream of new material to keep us stimulated. Unfortunatley, daily news and weekly highlights post E3 not only seem dull in comparison, but all the good stuff has already been revealed, so it's like watching Crank and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer after watching Die Hard and Transformers.

Alas, I have a solution for everybody. Visit my blog often this summer and look for the topic title, "Worth Your Time". I'll be on a quest to find the best game, movie, show, book, restaurant, and anything else I think of. Coming soon . . . "Worth Your Time, Part 1: 'Best in Show'." (Dae-ho, sorry, you've already watched all episodes.) :)

What Rules, what doesn't

Rules. My Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 soundtracks came today. Because they're imports I had to pay $70 for the both of them. Luckily I was able to find the soundtrack to MGS1 online for only $1. 1 and 3 are superb. 2 is so-so, and I was thinking about selling it, but it's a cool collector's item, at least.

Sux. The PS3 model Sony just cut the price on -- they are already discontinuing it.

Rules. Microsoft for having new download content via Xbox Live every day of E3.

Nintendo and My Money

I've been thinking about buying the DS, because I kind of want to play all the DS Castlevainia games and the new DS FFXII when it comes out. But other than those games there's nothing else I want for the DS. Then I start thinking -- I would rather play Metroid and Smash Bros. for the Wii.

So now I'm seriously thinking about getting the Wii for those two games, and of course the games on the Virtual Console (which I've long coveted). I think Wii Play would be a nice bonus. I'm not interested in any of the Mario games so far, like Paper, Strikers Charged, or Galaxy, unfortunately.

It feels weird, though. I know so much about video games . . . but I have no idea how to get a Wii.

Fun with emblems!

Sweet! If you look to the right of the screen, and just below were it says what level I am, you'll see some square icons. Those are my emblems Gamespot gave me for participating in E3 online! I got one for watching each press conference live -- neato!

Sony E3 Press Conference 2007 -- We Have a Winner

While the earlier Nintendo conference was a bit of a disappointment (at least for core gamers like myself), Sony completely stole the show. Sony did what everyone said they needed to do -- show games, games, games. It was a blast.

Ironically, the high point of E3 was juxtaposed with the low: Hideo Kojima in showcasing the new MGS4 trailer at Sony announced that he is done with the MGS series. That was a buzz kill, to say the least. I still really don't know what to think.
