Okay here we go..
XBOX LIVE-----------
Xbox 360-Cross game chat- lets you talk to your friends even if they are playing a different game (Useful)
Voice message- sends a message using your Xbox mic
Install to hard drive- lets you install games you have to the hard drive making loading faster.
(I think this is right) Party launching- lets you start a game with a party of yours on the go.
XBL Marketplace- lets you download games, add on content, and avatar costumes along with many more things.
Netflix- Lets you watch movies instantly (NO DISK)
Achievements- Achievements are in every game you play for the Xbox 360. They are certain goals in games which award you gamer score. 5 gamerscore achievements are usually the easiest and so on.
PLAYSTATION NETWORK-------------------
Psn- Text chat- lets you talk to a group of people no matter what game they are in (Useful)
PSn store- lets you download Movies, games, add on content, and more
In game invites- you don't have to send them a message
Netflix- lets you watch movies instantly(REQUIERS DISK)
Home- Lets you chat with friends, earn rewards for games by playing games inside of home, unlock items in home by purchasing some games on the Playstatioon 3, and lets you launch games with friends after having a good talk with them.
Trophies- For (Almost)every game you play for Playstation 3 there are a set of goals thatyou are able toaccomplish, in return the game will give you a trophy. Bronze, Silver, Gold, andPlatinum each giving you a different ammout ofpercentagesin which you are tying to achieve a higher level. Bronze being the lowest amout of XP and Platinum being the highest. Usually the bronze will be the easiest to achieve and Platinum being the hardest. Platinum Trophies are only awarded when a playersuccessfully unlock all trophies in that game.ALL TROPHIES ARE SAVED ON YOUR PLAYSTATION ACCOUNT.

These things listed above are the only things i use on both consoles (or the only main differences between the two). as you can see they are mostly the same for me.
You do not need Home to play games with friends
