RTSs, it's not made for the casuals out there since we do know that a lot of strategy gives them a torn brain muscle :(

A_zombie

YOU SEE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! O__O

No one cares for REAL TIME STRATEGY games no more! No one ACKNOWLEDGED IT!

I'm waiting for Starcraft 2. That'll be the next strategy game I buy, in all likeliness (even if that is a few years off).

Genres I think are dead:

Point and click adventure (Myst, anyone?)

Survival Horror is a bit bland these days... its only got Resident Evil and Silent Hill games these days. Unless "Sadness" really eventuates for Wii. Oh, actually... thinking about it, there's also Manhunt 2. Hmmm.... not as dead as I first thought.

RTS's aren't really dead, TURN-BASED strategy games are as good as dead. No one cares about them anymore.

Farming Simulators (I need a fix in between harvest moon games, and on my PC).

Deer/Game hunting games are as good as dead. (I'd like to see a game which is just purely a Safari hunting game on the African savannah hunting big game, with online multiplayer so you can have hunting parties in jeeps hunting Rhino's etc, I reckon that would be freaking sweet). Thats what I was hoping Afrika was about.

Game.

*Sorry CJL13, I respect you as an excellent poster/officer in this union, but I feel Game will be a vibrant and charismatic leader; and would be an excellent ambassador for the union in that capacity.

Okay, so its been close to a year since this thread was made, so what do you think now?  I'm still pretty happy with what KingWickee said, except that I think that Sony won't retain a small lead anymore. And the parallels between the N64 and the PS3 are still there, and some of them are getting stronger - eg N64 had a lack of non-exclusive 3rd party games; the PS3 has a lack of exclusive games - most games on PS3 are available on other consoles, so why buy one...

KingWickee's statement about Nintendo and party games appears to have been correct, and I think that Microsoft needs to diversify the titles on the Xbox 360 - still far too many shooters, not enough adventure/platformers/party games.

So what do you all think now, with the benefit of a year?

I dont think this is such a big deal. The way the Wii is setup with friend codes and what-not makes it impossible for a Xbox Live like experience with, say, Halo 2 to happen ever on Wii. So, even if Wii did get online - the whole online games system on it appears to be very poor from what I've heard, especially for a home console.

The Playstation 3 will sell the most units in the long run simply because:
1)The biggest complaint right now is "Their is no software to justify the $600 price tag".In 2-4 years, there will be games on the Ps3 that redefine the genres they are ****fied as.Problem 1 solved.

2)Another major complaint is the price point. The price wont be $600 forever, the console is expected to cost $450 by Christmas of 2008.Problem 2 solved. These are the major complaints, and it is clear that they are not permanent problems(E.g poor graphic chip, overheating processor chips, etc.)Dualshockin

Problem 1: The Nintendo 64 had the same problem, and in 2-4 years it also had a few extremely cool titles that did redifine genres. Problem is, these were the few games that were on the 64. The PS3's problem is that outside of a few exclusives (eg MGS4) ALL games on the system are ports of Xbox 360 or Wii games, or PS3 games get ported to 360/Wii. So I cant see that problem getting solved easily.

Problem 2: Although Sony may be able to drop the price of the PS3 by 2008, do you seriously think that the 360 and Wii will still be at their current price points by then? Definitely not. And thus the PS3 will still be as comparatively expensive as it is now.

That's how I see it, anyway.

I think he was "asked" to resign after this debacle with the PS3. Good move by Sony - I think he was losing touch. I wouldn't be going to System Wars for a couple of days if I was a Sony fan, but... "Sony is teh doomed" might be the topic of a few threads

how will MP3 be better?

Graphics? Not a chance.
Sound? Metroid has a better musical score, but I guess Halo will have better sound effects
Multiplayer? Probably not
Single Player? YES - 99% certain it will be better.

Well, I propose a toast to all officers and leaders past; present and future - and to those who are no longer with us. So, everyone please raise your virtual flutes of champagne and give three cheers.
