The Problems with Toonami on CN

As we all now, Toonami is an animation block that plays from 7-11 PM in the US on Saturdays. However, there are several things that Toonami is lacking on.

Formerly, Toonami used to be a block dedicated to Japanese Anime from 3-5 PM in the US on Weekdays. This meant that the shows they would air would air a new episode everyday. However, now that Toonami has moved to Saturdays only, Toonami only airs new episodes every Saturday, causing some waits between each episode.

Toonami, as stated previously, was a block devoted to Anime. However, as time passed on, the block became more and more American Cartoon based, including shows such as Totally Spies, Teen Titans, and Batman Beyond (The only one of this list I hated was Totally Spies). I think that this decision began to hurt Toonami, a block often associated with having some of the best anime playing straight in a row. Now, they have started to blend in some American cartoons(Fantastic 4) into their block.

Toonami also used to have several killer ap. shows to watch. They used to have DBZ, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Tenchi, and Sailor Moon at one point in time. Now, they only have 1: Naruto. They used to also have Prince of Tennis and MAR. However, as of June 9, those two shows have now been taken off the schedule. This sucks since that means Naruto is the only worthwhile show on Toonami as of now.

Overall, Toonami has become a bit of a disappointment as of late, especially with how they used to be. I hope Toonami learns from their mistake soon.

UPDATE: Noted the removal of PoT and MAR from the line-up.

The Demise of WB Animation Studios; My Thoughts.

Well, today is a dark day for cartoons! As you may or may not have heard, the WB Animation Studio have now closed! Here is the link: http://www.frederatorblogs.com/post/4038

With this news, American Cartoons are now falling faster into a deep pit from which they cannot escape. With possibly the biggest name in American Cartooning, the ones who gave ussuch marvelslike Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman Beyond, The Batman, and if you want to go further into the past, Looney Tunes, now dead, which American cartoons are left? These were some of the best American cartoons of all. Now, the great company that made these cartoons is dead. The article in the link does say that they will work in a reduced capacity, but we do not know much else other than that. The one thing that could be said for sure is that the WB Animation Studio may never give us anymoregreat cartoons again! Rest in Peace, WB Animation! We will miss you!

Fanfiction.Net Account Made!

I was able to get a FF.Net account after a few months of waiting.  Here is the link:

http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1269572/

I made two stories there that are just revised versions of ones I posted on GameFAQs.  I am also in the process of doing one on the Dragon Ball-General Boards on GameFAQs.  I find writing fics fun since it keeps my time a bit occupied, with me coming up with fic ideas during my spare time.  I use BT2 to help with some of my fics, since it helps me envisualize the battles. If anyone is reading this and has stories for me to read or FF.Net profiles, feel free to post them.  I'll be glad to read them.  Goodbye, for now!

Tekken 6: The Story So Far!

Tekken 6 has had little revealed about it for some time. First, we saw that the E3 promotional video 2 years ago. Then, we see the E3 video last year. Later, it was revealed that that wasn't Tekken 6 per say, but rather how Tekken would possibly look on the Ps3. However, in February, at the AOS in Japan, Tekken 6 was finally displayed, confirming what we should expect from it. In that demo, two new characters were revealed and several characters were confirmed to return. The two new characters are Zafina, a female fighter who, in the creator's word, uses moves that are likened to a Spider; and Leo, another female fighter who uses Bajiquan, a style that was made more famous by Virtua Fighter's Akira Yuki. Another new thing revealed was the apparent ability for some characters to use items. Shown in the demo was Bryan Fury using a Shotgun to finish a juggle combo.

Recently, around a month ago, the storyline and some character profiles were revealed.

Storyline:

The story takes up from the end of Tekken 5, with Jin Kazama proving to be the victor. Now, as the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, he uses his new power to spread propaganda and to play world powers against each other. Later, the Mishima Zaibatsu declares itself as its own, independent country and world power. However, shortly after this, G Corporation puts a price on Jin Kazama's head. Jin then announces the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6.

Pretty interesting storyline, especially with the profiles that were revealed.

Profiles: (Will be updated)

Leo: Her mother was killed by a mysterious person in G Corp. After this, he enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6.

Zafina: In her village, it is said that when two evil stars collide, the world will end. She enters the tournament to see if the world will end.

Yoshimitsu: His sword is a cursed blade that gains power from killing those with evil hearts. The sword has extremely weakened over time, so he must find a new sword to quell the sword he uses now. Now, with two swords equipped, he enters the 6th King of Iron Fist Tournament.

Heihachi Mishima: He finally awakes after the Jack ambush back at the 4th Tournament. After he awakes, he finds out that Jin is now the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Enraged, he enters the 6th Tournament.

Jin Kazama: Pretty much the main storyline.

Kazuya Mishima: He rose to power in the shadows of G Corporation, killing the ones responsible for the assault on Honmaru (One of them is Leo's Mother). Eventually, he becomes the head of the G Corp. Seeing Jin Kazama as a possible threat, he puts a price on his head for anyone to kill him. Later, he enters the 6th Tournament, intent on killing Jin and unifying G Corporation and the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Interesting storylines, especially with Kazuya and Jin. Later, it was revealed that when Tekken 6 was shown in February, it was around 40% complete. The creator discussed new changes to several characters. First off, every character will have at least one item move, each one having a different effect. Secondly, he said that Yoshimitsu's fighting style will be adjusted to fit with his two swords, mixing that in with hand-to-hand combat to tie into his story. He also said that Law will receive modifications that will make any Bruce Lee fan or practitioner of Jeet Kune Do happy, meaning major changes are going to be made to him. Lastly, it was stated that Lei Wulong's stance transitions will be different from before, being more comparable to Lei Fei's or Shun Di's from VF.

Screen shots:

Here is a link to a group of screen shots for Tekken 6: http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/tekken6/_arcscreens.php?gid=t5arc&pagenumber=1 I must say that the screens are impressive to say the least. The detailing actually looks a bit better than VF5! Overall, I can't wait for Tekken 6's release later this year or next year.

UPDATE: Added a link to several screen shots of Tekken 6

UFC vs. WWE vs. TNA

Ah yes!  The (somewhat) eternal argument!  Is UFC better than WWE?  And is WWE better than TNA?  I will answer these questions:

Characters/Performers: UFC

This is almost a one-sided argument.  The UFC takes it because they do not use scripts for their characters.  In WWE and TNA, the character are created through written dialogue, so they are almost disqualified right there.  Also, the UFC stars, when in interviews seem more realistic when compared to the WWE/TNA stars who try to act in character all the time

Matches: UFC or TNA

Once again, UFC wins due to realness.  The matches are shorter than some of the wrestling matches we see tohe bday, but the energy in the matches makes watching a UFC match better than watching a WWE or TNA match.  However, TNA is doing new innovations in their matches, which puts them above WWE. All WWE is doing is recycling their old matches and giving them new names.

Stories/Rivalries: UFC

OK, UFC wins this one not only because they are real.  They win this because you never know what to expect from their rivalries. For instance, nobody expected Matt Serra to beat, let alone KO, Georges St. Pierre a few months back.  Also, Gabriel Gonzaga was considered the underdog against Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 70.  However, he knocked him out with a vicious kick to the head in the 1st Round. In WWE or TNA, you can most of the time tell who is going to win what match and when.  For instance, who didn't think John Cena was going to beat Umaga at the Royal Rumble? And who wouldn't think that Samoa Joe was going to lose his 1st match against Kurt Angle, then beat him during their 2nd Match? Not to take anything away from them, but their predictability is very bothersome, especially for anyone who saw Smackdown last Friday.  After the beating the Undertaker took, I figured Edge would come out a steal the title from him, since in the script, Edge is an opportunist when it comes to the MitB Title.

Overall: UFC

UFC easily takes this.  Due to the realism of the matches and the people, they seem to perform better and be more enthusiastic about their job then the TNA and WWE stars. Overall, if all 3 were on at the same time, I would watch UFC and occasionally flip back and forth with TNA.

Xbox 360 Elite: My thoughts

Well, as we all may or may not know, the Xbox 360 Elite is coming out soon.  The Xbox 360 Elite is basically an update of the pre-existing 360 with a 120 GB hardrive rather than the 20 GB Hardrive.  However, while this sounds good, there are quite a few flaws:

The 360 Elite is in Black.  I think that the black color is OK, but not great.  When you look at the PS3 and Wii in Black, it has a sheen to it.  When you look at the 360, however, it looks like a flat Black Color, with no sheen whatsoever.  To get that effect, you might as well spray-paint the 360 Black.  Who knows, you may get a better look through the spray-paint if done the right.

The memory thing is another weird mistake. .  I think that Microsoft is getting too worried about the other consoles that they are starting to make illogical mistakes such as adding way too much extra memory.  It also sucks for people who already bought a 360, since if they buy the Hard Drive with the 120GB, they will actually spend more money that way, not including the Xbox Live Fees nor the Hd-DVD Drive if they didn't get it.  If you add everything together, it is more expensive than the PS3 60GB Version.  The one advantage Microsoft had was destoryed with the 360 Elite release: the price.  Now, the PS3 could now be called the second most expensive console.

If anything could save Microsoft, It would be the inclusion of the HD-DVD Drive.  Since the PS3 includes the Blu-Ray drive, it is the cheapest Blu-Ray player.  However, you still have to shell out an extra $200 for the Hd-DVD drive for the 360, making it more expensive, when all costs are taken into account, than the PS3.  Overall, Microsoft shot themselves in the foot, and now, they will possibly pay for their own mistake.

Also, with the news that any download you had on the old 360 is pretty much dead, this si a really dumb move by Microsoft, making the 360 as a whole almost not worth it whne you consider the Online content.  The 360 Elite is an update to the original 360, but it instead screws every 360 owner who uses and downloads content from Xbox Live.  Also, if you have games that you want to play from the original 360, you have to fill out an authorization form just to get a transfer cable for the Elite.  However, even with the cable, your stuff that was already on the Elite will be deleted, making it not good to play on it until you receive your transfer cable.  When you buy the 120 GB HDD for $179.99 however, you get the transfer cable with it, making it seem as if the Elite wasn't meant for anyone who already had a 360 to begin with.  In fact, it has succeeded in doing the one thing Microsoft doesn't want; repeling consumers! Now, people who already have an Xbox 360 at home will not want to shell out more money for a console that, even with a transfer cable, will be in-complete due to the inability to play downloaded content offline.  In short, Microsoft has screwed itself while trying to attract new cstumers, while the opposite effect happened, with some of the consumers now no longer buying XBL content.  To me, it seems like Microsoft is ending it's own life span quicker with these mistakes.

Movie Review: Street Fighter (Spoilers)

I have seen horror, and it is Street Fighter.  Well, not horror per say, but a hilarious movie none the less.  What better movie to review first than this beautiful bit of "a masterpiece".

Cast: 5/10

Well, the cast is OK at best.  Raul Julia is a good actor and pulled off the Bison role with a decent success.  Some of the other actors, however, fell flat on their face.  For instance, Jean Claude Van Damme pretty much destroyed the Guile character, and don't get me started on Dee Jay and Ken.  Anyway, the next section.

Presentation: 3/10

The movie looked like a low budget movie, even by B-Movie standards.  It loked cheesy to the end.  Unbelievibly bad.

Story: 1/10

Here is the worst (best?) part of the movie.  Even though it is a movie based off of an existing franchise, it doesn't go by much of the games storyline at all.  First off, Ryu is given a last name, making him Ryu Hoshi.  Then, Ryu and Ken are made into smugglers in the US rather than martial arts masters from the US and Japan. Also, they get their Karate Gi's after they are kidnapped by Bison, which leads to Zangief speaking possibly the best line in the movie: "Now you look like Bison Troopers!" That line was so ridiculous that I was laughing for almost a minute straight.  Chun-Li is also given a last name, making her Chun-Li Xiang.  Also, instead of an Interpol agent, she is a news reporter for the local news station.  Hmmm...good going with the story so far! :(

It gets better from here, trust me!  Sagat is made into another Warlord, being put as high as Bison. While he does join with Bison in the movie, why is he a warlord looking to obtain control of the world with Bison? He is supposed to be a Muay-Thai fighter who joins Bison to gain a rematch with Ryu.  Dee Jay is made into a Shadaloo soldier, who, according to a bit of dialogue he says, used to work for Microsoft! That is so wrong on so many levels that I will not comment on that.  In exchange, they made Balrog into a good guy, helping Chun-Li and the others to fight Shadaloo.  Don't get me wrong; if I had a choice, I would choose Balrog over Dee Jay anyday, but this switch does not fit with the already established continuity.  Cammy is also traded off in a sense.  Instead of being an assassin who used to work for Shadaloo, she is a member of the US Special Forces. Finally, Zangief seems to be the least changed character of all, maintaing his accent (gasp!) and sounding as stupid as I remember him sounding.

The main story of the movie (If it is to be called a movie) is that Bison and Sagat are trying to gain control of the World.  After that, it is up to Guile to save the day.  Wow! I remember that is was Ryu and Ken who were fighting Bison more than Guile, but my memory, accoriding to the movie, is a bit off.  Oh well!

Comedic Factor: 6/10

Normally, I will not put this if the movie was not intended for laughs, but this will be an exception to the rule.  With so many stupid lines and story changes in the movie, not to mention the mispronunciation of Ryu (pronouned Rai-You in the movie), it scores high on the comedic factor for me.

Overall: 2/10

Easily, one of the worst movies of all time!  However, the comedic aspects of the movie prevent me from giving it a lower score.

First reaction at the start of the movie: "Is this a comedy?"                                                                                                       Reaction after seeing the movie: "This has to be comedy!  There is no way this was an actual attempt at Street Fighter!"

Quote of the Movie: "Now you look like Bison Troopers!"

Today's Pro Wrestling vs. Yesterday's Pro Wrestling

My first Rant will be under a section which I have loved for a time, but I have begun to waver from it.  It is about Wrestling.  In this blog, I am comparing Today vs. Yesterday on Pro Wrestling.  Let's start the comparison with Superstars:

Superstars:

Today's Superstars are less drawing than yesterday's stars.  Yesterday, we had stars like Brutus Beefcake, Sgt. Slaughter, The UN-Americanz, Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, the NWO, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, Rey Mysterio, Jake Roberts, Mick Foley, The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs, Ted Dibiase, Bobby Heenan, Jerry Lawler, Randy Savage, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock.  Today, we have Kurt Angle, John Cena, the Hardy Boys, Johnny Nitro, Edge, Randy Orton, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, The Great Khali, and Umaga.  When you compare the lists, only a handful of these superstars can compare to some of the ones on the Yesterday List.  The superstars back then had the charisma to draw a crowd into an arena.  Now, people like Vince McMahon have to rely on gimmicks to draw a crowd into a show.  Also, the stars back then had some mic. skills.  Today, some of them a dull on the mic. and almost as dull in the ring.  Really, I miss Yesterday's Wrestlers.  Some may argue that it's because of the storylines the wrestlers are put in, which leads me to my next category:

Storylines:

Back when wrestling was at its peak in the 80's, they didn't need over-the-top stories to draw a crowd.  The wrestlers and their abilities did that themselves.  Later on, some of the storylines were added, with each one starting out good, with only some bad ones.  Today, there are quite a few storylines that make me think that they need to be thrown back into the garbage can that produced it.  Storylines such as the "God" storyline and the "Battle of the Billionares" make me wonder if wrestling isn't all that its cracked up to be.  Another storyline that comes to mind is the rebirth of DX.  Sure it was fun for a while, but then, it just got annoying.  These types of storylines make me think that Vince is scrapping the bottome of the barrel and coming up short.

Wrestling Ability:

This is where the Yesterday and Today Wreslters are actually close in comparison.  Yesterday, there weren't many over-the-top moves as there are today.  However, one could say that that was kept the "purity" of wrestling back then.  As for me, I love some of the moves of Today's wrestlers.  Certain stars add a little flair to their matches, making each one fun to watch. And now, my final category:

Predictablilty:

Yesterday wins this easily.  Back then, matches were no where near as predictable as Today.  I remember watching a match and sitting there going Oh and AH at the moves they used.  Today, I only do that once in awhile since I can pretty much predict the next move in the match.  Today's matches aren't all predictable to me, however, as some still have me going Oh and Ah, but no where near as often as Yesterday.

Overall: Yesterday

Overall, I prefer Yesterday's style of wrestling much better than Today's style of wrestling.  Back then, wrestling was pretty much pure wrestling.  Now, it is a soap opera with guys beating each other up, with predictable results.  I truly wish for Yesterday's style of Wrestling to return.

So, there it is!  My first rant, and I am glad to get that off of my chest.  Until next time, See ya!
