They are both excellent games, so get both of them. Both of them have great plus sides. Personally I like Fable a bit more because of the Albion Setting and the character customization....which JE doesn't have. On the other side, the complexity of the story is a bit better in JE. Still my advice is, get Fable: Lost Chapters AND Jade Empire... RPGs rule!!!
It's a cool game, it may not be as good as the movies but then again... those were awesome movies. In my opinion it's worth it... oh and check out Mafia too.
However, story's the last priority you should put on a game. You want a good story, buy a book. They're usually cheaper, too.

LOL Good point! Still a good story helps build a good game. So far I've enjoyed KOTOR, Jade Empire and Fable as the best. MGS:Substance is a great one too.
