So...playstation fanboys are back to using DF after they go upset about them "flubbing" the BF4 comparison?

Use logic, young lemming.

If even the extremely Xbone bias DF is saying the PS4 version is massively superior and the definitive version, just how bad must the Xbone version be?

I love it when cows use the word "massively". It instantly means that I am dealing with a 14 year old. That aside, read the last two paragraphs, young man. How can one version be "massively better" when the DF writer says they look about the same?

LOL! Cows. Or in your case... LOL! Calves...

"That said, it's instantly obvious that the same level of image quality isn't present on the Xbox One release, which looks visibly worse in comparison to the unpatched 900p PS4 game."

Read your own article. You can't escape the fact that in the end, the author says they look about the same. Does the PS4 version look better under a microscope? Apparently so. Is it "OMG massive", like you say? Nope.

"About the same" and "Visibly worse" mean 2 separate things.

The first phrase is subjective while the 2nd phrase is objective. I agree that overall, the Xbone looks "about the same" as the PS4 and PC version. Doesn't change the fact that it's massively inferior to both and the inferior graphics is clearly visible.

FFXIII on the 360 was "about the same" as the PS3 version, but it was still massively inferior.

Yes, even without the graphics upgrade patch, the PS4 was noticeably superior to the present Xbone version. LOL

The Xbone is disgusting... I think even the Wii U version looks better than it.

well that's just silly

You might be a sucker for unrealistic colors, but I prefer natural colors. I tried playing Arkham City in RGB Full. Utterly unplayable since 75% of my screen was pitch black at all times.

So it's funny how when watching aide by side video they look almost identical.

and lol that the x1 has already reached its optimization limit when it is know to be the more difficult of the two to develop for

The differences are noticeable on a 30+" TV in uncompressed quality. That's why DF and many reviewers are saying the PS4 is noticeably superior. You're not gonna be able to witness differences in a youtube vid that takes up 1/10th of your 20" computer screen.

Also, harder to develop for does not mean unoptimized. The PS4 version is unoptimized because it's easier to develop for. If the PS4 is looking like the maxed PC version at locked-30 FPS and 1080p through a rushed port job, why should they optimize the game when it's already running "ideally" in console standards? They would just lock the FPS at 30 and leave it at that. Like most multiplats, the PS4 team probably had less than 3 people while the Xbone team had over 100 programmers. It probably took less than 3 weeks for the PS4 version. The PS4 team would then be transferred to the Xbone team to finish the Xbone version.

The Xbone version probably received every optimization trick in the book and it still fell very short of the much more superior PS4 version, which was unoptimized.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-assassins-creed-4-next-gen-face-off

"In fact, on the PS4 we never felt or noticed anything other than a locked 30fps update at all during our four hours or so of capturing - an impressive feat considering the boost to 1080p rendering. The Xbox One version ... at 900p, but there are times when the frame-rate is noticeably compromised, resulting in uneven motion and even the odd torn frame (too few in number to be noticeable)."

(snip)

"On that note it's clear that the PS4 game is the definitive release of Assassin's Creed 4 on the console formats. While the experience doesn't come close to defining next-gen gaming, the boost in hardware capability now makes it possible to enjoy Black Flag for all its flaws and accomplishments without anything else getting in the way - plus you get an hour's worth of exclusive content too, available only on PS3 and PS4. In that respect the PS4 game is worth coughing up extra for over the current gen releases, and if you already own the PS3 version then trading up to the PS4 edition for just £10 is a no-brainer."

Other than that, we are looking a close alignment between Xbox One, PS4 and PC, which stand apart from the PS3, Xbox 360 and - yes - the Wii U versions

Seems like they made a mountain out of a mole hill, considering the sentence above. The whole article translated into "we think 1080p looks nicer than 900p. The PS4 patch brought it's version to 1080p, so it looks nicer."

Just think how much man-power and optimization the Xbone version received from Ubisoft developers and still came out a steaming pile of horsecrap.

The PS4 barely received any optimization. The Xbone has hit its limit. PS4 games are mostly unoptimized and will continue to improve throughout the remainder of this generation.

So both versions are good, but one has the more consistent frame rate and higher resolution. Cool.

Xbone version is terrible...

900p, low-res textures, sub-30 FPS, inferior anti-aliasing solution, and blurry IQ.

*Another* superior mulit plat on the quad. Glad I bought the best version and looks like my decision to play only exclusives on my Xbone is the best thing to do.

well looking at the article, it would seem that the PC version is the best/superior version

Look, mangina, most normal people don't want to play on the PC. We want a machine that streamlines gaming as well as social features, and no PC does this as well as the PS4 can.

Here's an interesting tidbit:

"So once the day one patch has been applied we're looking at a crisp, native 1080p framebuffer on the PS4, backed up by a new custom post-process anti-aliasing solution that works well in suppressing jaggies across much of the scene. This gives the game a clean look overall, barring issues with sub-pixel detail that can only be resolved on PC, where a vast range of anti-aliasing options are available if you have the GPU power to run them. Moving onto Microsoft's console, there's no special update to boost resolution on the Xbox One game, which renders at 1600x900 while using an older post-process AA algorithm that doesn't provide the same smooth level of coverage we see on PS4. This isn't necessarily a deal breaker though, if you consider how well the stock 900p PS4 game is upscaled - even without the patch, overall image quality still looked remarkably smooth.

That said, it's instantly obvious that the same level of image quality isn't present on the Xbox One release, which looks visibly worse in comparison to the unpatched 900p PS4 game. Essentially this translates to a fuzzier image on screen that highlights the breaking up of fine detail in the distance while smoothing over texture details. As we've seen in other sub-1080p games upscaled by the Xbox One hardware, overall image quality is further impacted by the introduction of an unwanted sharpening filter, directly responsible for the grainy pop that surrounds the texture work and foliage throughout the game and the visibly hard edges on foliage and complex scenery."

Also, I thought this was hilarious: "Barring the occasional use of a few lower resolution textures on Microsoft's system in the odd scene,"

LOL... So not only does the PS4 have the exclusive missions and sidestories, but it also has the exclusive 1080p resolution, the exclusive highly-superior anti-aliasing solution, and the exclusive high-res textures on everything.
