Oddly enough FFVIII ranks among one of my favorite in the main series. I don't think it's become worse, it's just different, hit or miss, and I've been saying this for years here:

I disagree with quote, they hit 9 directly on the head for me. And 6. And Tactics, despite god awful translation.
I think the PS2 had closer to maybe 80 million customers, because a lot of people have had more than one. And personally no, the PS2 was too similar to the PS1 to really establish itself as a standout console, to me.
