Honestly I would spring for an HD-DVD addon drive if I were you. What bothers me is the price, and that wouldn't be a problem in your case. All thoes games are good.
Are game mags that desperate to push copies that they make feisty commentary on new products? Half of those aren't even close to being valid. Granted the elite is not perfect and there are legitimate complaints, however that article is trash.
