Get Animal Crossing. There's a lot more you can do in that game, and eventually Nintendogs becomes a chore instead of fun.

It might depend on how deep it is.

I had a really small one and it took about 10 minutes. The place where they filled it feels a bit odd when you're eating, but it returns to normal after a few days.

I like smaller dogs over bigger ones.
