Ya, games now a days are geared towards skimishes and rushes. But the Total War Series is a good example of turtling, Especially Rome and Medieval 2. Also try to get your hands on Settlers 4 or Heros of Might and Magic, which I hear is pritty good.

JP_Russell

I already have the total war games.

About Heroes of Might and Magic, how does the series play? Is it an RPG or TBS? There are two expansions out, are they both stand alone? If I just want to play sandbox mode do I have to buy all of them or just the Tribes of the East?

I'm pretty sure they're turn-based, not real-time.

Turn based is fine too now.

Pew this has been one huge busy game year. I don't remember a quarter where so many good and decent games have come out.

I've gotten Bioshock, Hellgate London, World in Conflict, Gears of War (PC Version), Enemy Territory Quake Wars, The Orange Box.

Now since its November I'm slightly stuck between choosing 2 games now. Its Call of Duty 4 and Crysis. I tried the Crysis demo and wasn't that all slightly impressed. Sure it has good graphics and a nice solid shooter feel to it, but COD4 looks more interesting and I get better framerate than I do Crysis.

So should I spend money for either COD4 or Crysis? Both are good games. I'm kinda in a quandry at the moment.

I would choose COD4, Crysis is not really even a complete game at the moment. Too many bugs and the single player campiagn is really short so they can stretch it into a triology.

Yeah, with the British in CoH, its all about expanding to a certain point and then defending like crazy. ILostOnJeprody
So I don't have to skrimish like in Dawn of War right?

I read that even with the Brits you have to still attack quickly, just not as quickly as the others.

Yeah, that's true, but they're still very defensive, as long as you don't mind pushing forward as well as being heavily defensive.

Is it possible to create a frontline with the Brits and push forward SOIDLY instead of skrimishing and chasing enemies across the map? I hated DAwn of war because of this, the enemy always does gurrella tactics and it's so annoying to have to run across the map because they are sneaking in.

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts has the British faction targeted directly at defensive players.
Though, the other factions are not so defense oriented, so I'm not sure it would be worth checking out if you only want to play as one faction. But all of the factions are brilliant fun to play as, so I can recommend it anyway. ;)

Starcraft, an RTS infamous for its amount of emphasis on rushing, is turtle friendly? News to me.

I also disagree with the Dawn of War. Sure, it is if you're facing easy or medium AI, but otherwise, it has way too much emphasis on expansion to be turtle friendly.

Nevermind then, I'll just play UT 3.
