@thorn3000 @VGjunkie87 Considering how good the actual gameplay is, as VGJunkie said, I'd consider 8.0 to be a bit harsh; 8.5 minimum for me (which is still "Great", what many people seem to forget), but it's ludicrous to completely drop your rating of a game because of those minor issues. The subtractions you made based on those issues are pretty fair.
@Demonnuke @VGjunkie87 The framerate is an engine issue. The console version had the same problems, but still got a well-deserved 9.5. As I said in my first comment, if it's the exact same game as the console version, it deserves the same rating. It's still an amazingly seamless, content-filled world, with tight and skill-based combat. Boss fights are still exhilarating, and every difficult enemy and area beaten is still a triumph. You'd be hard pressed to find such experiences in any other game, and I'm not going to let a few brief framerate drops in busy areas (I've only had it in Blighttown because there's heaps going on there, using a GTX460 2GB) make me drop the rating to a 2 or 3 that many users are rating this game because they don't like how it's been ported. As for the graphics, they're pretty good (I'm a game artist so I should know), and do what they need to. The thing that separates it from modern PC games is the lighting engine. Textures and geometry are high quality. The only reason you could consider them bad are because of the bad resolution without the mod fix. But if PC gamers (myself being one) are supposed to be so superior to console gamers, work around it and get that mod! It's not a big deal. If the PC controls are such an issue and you can't figure out how to customise them to your liking, consider a controller as part of the price for the game. And if you still think the cost isn't worth it, then complain about not getting enough bang for your buck, but believe me, I'm 30 hours in and nowhere near close to finishing, not to mention I'll be happy to go for a second playthrough on New Game+, a harder difficulty.
People are complaining about the PC porting way too much. Plug a controller into your PC and suddenly this becomes the exact same 9.5 console game of last year, only with added content.
"This technology will supposedly allow for more realistic lighting, where "colors mix, translucent materials glow, and objects viewed through water refract.""
Sounds like he's alluding to realtime unbiased raytracing.
