This is exactly the kind of zombie game I've been waiting for. At least that's what I thought.
When DayZ came out I was thinking, "This is it! Finally a game that combines my love of scavenging/resource gathering, rpg elements, and zombies!" Then I logged in, got killed by another "friendly" player, and quickly realized maybe this wasn't the game for me. I gave it a good run though. I ended up playing for about 2 weeks, although never really getting anywhere. Finally I got sick of it and gave up.
Then War Z came out and....yeah I'm not reopening that can of worms. Let's just say pay to win is NOT my style.
Then, about a month ago(don't ask me how the game slipped through my radar for so long) I hear of State of Decay. My first thought was, "SINGLE PLAYER!!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!" This game should be everything I've ever wished for in this type of game. That's the problem though, it is. I never realized how freaking insanely difficult it would be surviving a zombie apocalypse.
At first I had no problems whatsoever, then I made it to the church. Almost immediately about 10 gazillion things start to go wrong in a huge snowball effect. I lose Marcus in a horde attack. Maya blows her brains out. I lose Sam to a feral. Ed simply disappears. I still have no idea what happened to him. I got the doc from the Wilkerson's place and he patched Ed up, who then became playable. I was in the middle of a mission with Dana at the time, going to find food as we were running dangerously low. I come back and go to switch to Ed and poof, no Ed. No mention of his death, he simply disappears from the list of characters.
So now I am left with one playable character. I am almost completely out of supplies. I have tons of weapons and painkillers and things like that in the locker, I;m referring to base supplies like building materials, medicine, food etc. Do I just suck that bad at the game or what? I've considered starting over, but I am like 10 hours in already. Any suggestions, tips, criticism?
Why would the series backstep into a checkpoint system? Other than that, I love the game. I am just curious as to what the design decision was here. Also, the game seems to discourage backtracking. I just got past this part where Elizabeth has to slip through some bars in a gate and the game introduces the tear system. Now, after killing all the enemies, I am unable to get the hook back again(the one that you use to get over the gate) so I cannot backtrack anymore. I really hope I did not miss anything. Having OCD really sucks sometimes because it is going to probably bother me to the point of starting the game all over again.
