You should pick up Blast Corps and Space Station Silicon Valley if you like some oddball puzzle games, those were great.  For platformers go for Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Donkey Kong 64.  In fact, majority of Rare games are safe bets, Jet Force Gemini was especially fantastic.  The Turok series was fantastic if you want to go with FPS's.  All of these are N64 of course.
A good SNES game?  E.V.O.

I, like many, have gotten lucky (well, after a massa mount of tries), and the first battle power that I got was the whammy.  Then you use the whammy at the very beginning of Lou's green note section (which is quite soon after the battle power up) and you win simply because of how many notes he misses.  So if you want, just keep restarting until you get whammy attack on the first battle power up.
What this shows of course.. is yes, there's a lot of luck involved in the battle.

Team Fortress originated as a mod for Quake, that was the first TF.  Team Fortress Classic was the second in the series, as others have said as a Half-Life mod.

My right trigger squeaked right out of the box, but it was near launch and I had gotten the last one at the store. A little WD40 around the trigger, leave it to dry and it hasn't squeaked once since then to now. I did the same on my Xplorer for Guitar Hero 2, all around the fret buttons since they stuck just a bit and they've been playing smoothly since.

New games make next to no money for a company, they're not a good way to make money. Independant game stores often have trouble due to this fact. Used games on the other hand are where stores can make up for that and make some money.

Halo 2 was $58.99 a copy to purchase into the store (indendant store albeit) and was necessary to sell for $59.99 (CDN). Sold tons, made next to no money. That's just an example for you, I'm sure larger retailers get cheaper deals for mass purchases.

Either way though, while it can be annoying, it's always true to the fact that no one is forcing you to sell it, and if you want a better value then head over to Ebay.

Just go back to EB and get them to print out another receipt for your preorder.

Are you quite sure it isn't Gradius 3? The levels were very organic looking and upgrades to the ship include energy balls that would circulate your ship and shoot as well.

Yes, of course, in fact it's rumoured that it's the PS3 version that's the cause of the delay.

I've used it for a while now, in three different places and not once have I had a problem with it. It's easy to install and very reliable. As was mentioned above, the only downfall is the price, but I've found it well worth it.

It's game dependant really.  There are some games that have difficult to read fonts when displayed on a non HD display, Dead Rising is a good example.  However, that doesn't affect the gameplay at all, but it might be a minor nuissance.  Overall however, the graphics are still great on an SDTV, and it doesn't really detract from the games at all.  However, a bonus to you will be that if and when you upgrade to an HDTV you'll probably be able to go back and play your collection all over again to see them all in HD.
So is HD significantly better?  I believe so yes.  But does playing on a non HD display hurt your enjoyment?  No, and it will still look good.

*Edit*
As for your question in the title, about component/composite cables.
The cables that come with the premium pack have both component and composite outputs, so you're fine whether on a standard display or HD.  Composite is what you'll generally use for an SDTV, which is your standard yellow/red/white cables (or you can buy an Svideo cable for a slightly sharper image).  Component on the other hand is what you'll generally use for an HDTV, and has each colour signal on a seperate cable (plus two for audio, so five total).  Premium has both options, so you'll be able to bump up to an HDTV with ease if you ever pick one up.
