Resolution I usually run at is 1280 x 1024; don't think my monitor can support a higher res, and I'm fine with my games at that res anyway. As for the power supply; sorry, I don't know what I have off-hand.

Ew...1280x1024??? Yeah, you should get a new monitor as well.

Acer P224Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail - $150

SAPPHIRE 100287VGAL Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail - $95

Total: $245 free shipping all

Whatever's powering your 8600GT currently should be able to handle the 5670, which uses as much power as the 8600GT. The 5670 won't last you TOO long (it'll probably become obsolete sometime in the next two years, sadly...), but it's a good jump from your 8600GT. Sorry dude, but it's the best you can get without upgrading your PSU.

Hah. Thanks for the suggestion, but I really am content with 1280 x 1024, and aren't quite ready to go for a bigger monitor just yet. Just looking for a new card. Anyway, I found out that my power supply is 550 W. I think I'm going for the HD 5770 or the GTX 260; somewhat leaning towards the 5770.

Hi there. I'm looking into upgrading my system with a new video card, but as usual, I'm never quite sure which will get me the most bang for my buck. I don't want to spend $400 for a top of the line card; I'm looking for something around $150-$250 that will last me a couple of years. My current 8600 GT is definitely starting to show its age. Current games have to be run at around 1024 x 768 to get a respectable framerate, and even then I may have to turn down a few settings.

Here are my current specs:

3.0 GHz Duo Core Processor
2 Gigs RAM
8600 GT 512 MB PCI-e

I know that eventually I'll have to upgrade my RAM, but I feel like getting a better video card is of a higher priority right now. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful. :]

Thanks.

Hey all, I'm considering getting some new hardware soon, and I think my videocard might be the bottleneck of my comp.

Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon x2 64 Dual Core Processors 6400+
2 Gigs RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB

If the video card is indeed my bottleneck, could anyone recommend me a good new one that'll last me a couple years from $100-$200? Thanks much.

Hey there. On Calc homework right now and Google won't help me find this. Integral of cos (x) dx is sin x + C. However, I need to know if the x/2 in the cosine changes anything.

Thanks.

I don't quite understand the thought of: Oh well it'd be too hard to design and come up with so we shouldn't do it.

If anything, because of that, they SHOULD do it.

I had a ton of problems with GoW PC. It's easily the biggest waste of $50 I've spent this year, when there are so many better options out there.

I love FPS games, especially co-op, so Gears seems like the obvious choice...

Herrick

Why? Gears of War is not an FPS.

Oh gee, the fact you can see your guy is just leaps and bounds away for me to comprehend. I know there's rolling and dodging, but still, the genres are similar.

So, I got some extra cash to spend, and three great games are catching my eye:

Gears of War for PC, Viva Pinata for PC, or Super Mario Galaxy. I realize that these are all completely different games, but I'll go out on a limb and say I tend to enjoy FPS' the most, and the co-op aspect of GoW is great, but it looks as though Mario will be superb, and VP might last me a long time for replay value. I just have no idea which one to pick, but I'm somewhat leaning towards GoW or VP.

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.
