I kinda want to quickly get to the part of the story that hasn't been covered by the tv series.

It's best to start from the beginning. You have till April, so why not sit back and enjoy the book series in it's entirety?

I agree with this. Season 1 is a carbon copy of book 1, but the book is a good bit deeper. I say read em.
