@jodomar: I can see how having female front line soldiers would ruin the experience in regards to the main story due to no front line female soldiers in the historical battles (with very few exceptions), but multiplayer is a little bit different and isn't always going to be historically accurate.

As for you wanting no black soldiers for historic reasons, black soldiers actually did fight on the front lines in American units, although it wasn't to the same level as with white soldiers. Black soldiers fought in the Battle of the Bulge, for example.

Not saying that you can't make the request, but I don't see it happening for the simple fact that Activision will want the customized soldiers visible to everyone so that if they have any paid items equipped, other players will see them and have the desire to buy those items.

As a result, they probably don't want to deal with the backlash of giving players the option to make all OPFOR characters white males in the options, even if the purpose is for historic reasons, or the more likely reason being so that paid customizations stay visible. Perception can be a lot more damaging than reality.

@ives74: I am already aware that promoting the games for their eventual eShop release on the Switch is the main reason they released the NES Classic and why they are releasing this. I fully expect Star Fox 2 to make its way onto the Switch within 90 days of their eventual cancellation announcement of the SNES Classic and subsequent announcement of the N64 Classic. The point of my reply was that people like myself want the actual system for the collector's value, not for the games we can already get elsewhere, but we aren't willing to pay up to seven times the retail value to scalpers. Also, with the current going rate of SNES games on the Virtual Console and Wii U/3DS eShop, it's cheaper to buy the SNES Classic at its retail price than to buy each individual game on the Virtual Console ($160 for all 20 available games, and no legal option to buy Star Fox 2 right now), and that doesn't even count the cost of getting a console to play it on and it robs you of the ability to use an SNES controller to play.

@SPARTAN_D7: While I am with you on how scummy it is to hold back material for DLC or microtransactions, I don't have a problem with day one patches. The ability to patch out bugs is the reason we aren't waiting an extra three to six months for a game to come out, since before the Internet, a game had to be perfect before it to stores or the glitches were permanent.

@dragonagelore: It has pretty much been accepted that the whole reason for Nintendo releasing so few units of the NES Classic was to build hype for the games that came on it, so when they discontinued it they could tell folks that those games can still be acquired on the Virtual Console. Yes, it totally misses the point that people want the actual system for it's collector's value and not just the games they can get from other sources (otherwise, scalpers wouldn't get away with charging $300 for an NES Classic on eBay), and hopefully they figure that out before they announce that the SNES Classic is being canceled in preparation for the N64 Classic next year while the SNES Classic is averaging $400 on eBay because of how fast they canceled it.

@ives74: It's for the collector's value of the system itself, not the actual games that the system comes with. With the exception of Star Fox 2, every game on the SNES Classic has already been legally re-released on either the Virtual Console or other platforms (no need to mention the less-than legal options), and Final Fantasy 3 (FFVI to the rest of the world) was remade for Android and iOS with better graphics.

@franzhopper252: Not recasting the Genie because Robin Williams passed away makes about as much sense as the people that said the Joker should have been retired after The Dark Knight out of respect for Heath Ledger. Recasting the role doesn't always have to be a sign of disrespect to the original actor.

@Simulator_Shock: You would have to excuse me if I don't remember how bad the PS1 version was, since I bought it when it first came out. I'm not saying that you are wrong, and I don't remember whether or not loading times improved when playing the PS1 disc on the PS2 or PS3. I do remember when I played Chrono Cross on the PS3 the cutscenes would go to crap if I had the setting on for faster load times.

I still own the DS version, and I have zero complaints with it, if you don't mind not being able to play it on your TV without spending a few hundred bucks on the 3DS capture kit. I also ended up buying the Android version when it was on sale since it was less than a meal in McDonald's at the time. Those two versions are the only reason I honestly don't care about it not being one of the SNES Classic games.

They really need to add a way to add more games without having to mod the system, since those 21 games will eventually leave people wanting more. I would even be okay with them adding the ability to buy games via a Virtual Console service, since the idea of them letting us plug in an SD card with more games like the Sega Genesis Portable probably wouldn't even be entertained if there was no way to make sure we paid for the games.

@thejash07: Considering that Chrono Trigger was already released on the PS1 with added cutscenes, and on the Wii Virtual Console, and you can currently play it on the 3DS and both Android and iOS right now, I'm okay with them not putting the game on the SNES Classic if it means we can get a game that we can't find anywhere else in return.

I wouldn't even mind swapping Final Fantasy III for another hard-to-find or unreleased game since I beat the original at least ten times in 1995 before moving on to Chrono Trigger and I ended up buying it again on both the GBA and PS1 before finally buying the graphically upgraded version on Android.

I got my Switch from Amazon and while I didn't buy Zelda from them, I reserved a Pro controller back when it was sold out in a lot of other places because they happened to have four reservations available. It isn't impossible for people to buy Zelda from them when they got their Switch elsewhere.

Also, I remember reading another article stating that part of the reason Zelda outsold the Switch itself was because of people that bought both one of the collectors editions and a regular copy so they can keep their collector's edition in the wrapping while playing the standard edition.
