Metroid Prime 3: Corruption review

So I finished writing my review. GoNintendo is ignoring me, and won't post a link to my review. I guess because my site is an actual website, and not just a blog, they decided to shun me. Well, whatever.

A snippet:

"This is the first Wii game that is really worth buying the console for. I bought my Wii specifically for this game, and the wait was worth it. I'm sad that it's all over now, but if nothing else, I've got hope for the future. Nintendo is starting to deliver decent games now, and I think third-parties are about to follow suit. They sure should, because playing through Metroid Prime 3 will definitely force you to reevaluate how you spend your gaming budget in the future, and it really highlights how little effort has been put into almost every other Wii offering to date."

Just finished Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

This is definitely the best Wii game out, and for any real gamer (read: person who played games before DS and Wii came on the market), you're going to love it.

I'll have a review up on Wiisels.com ASAP. Probably tomorrow.

Until then, read my Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition review by clicking here.

A snippet:

"When all is said and done, an engaging story and realistic graphics are nice to have, but if you aren't having a good time, then you may as well be playing Chicken Shoot (which fails on all three fronts). Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, on the other hand, does the gameplay so well that it more than makes up for any weaknesses in plot, along with those GameCube graphics."

Proof that Mario is Kiddy

I'm sorry to all the idiots who claim that Mario is not kiddy, but in no way, shape, or form, is Mario ever to be considered "hardcore" - not even by Nintendo:

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition Review

So tonight right after work the wife and I went to EB Games again. She brought my copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash. It has a $20 trade-in value, slightly less than the average going rate on eBay. I figured I'd trade it in towards The Godfather: Blackhand Edition for Wii so that I didn't have to pay full price out of my pocket. Considering I'm not going to play Mario Kart ever again, and the hassle of selling it on eBay for a measly extra $5 or so, it was worth it.

Well, I grabbed the new release and came home and popped it in right away. That was about 8 hours ago. Taking breaks for food and washroom, and a bit of relaxation, so far I have played this game for a total of 6 hours and 15 minutes, according to my Wii's time logs. This means that in the first night of owning the game, I have played it already more than Call of Duty 3 (a game I bought alongside the Wii on launch day), and also more than Rampage: Total Destruction, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, and Monster 4x4: World Circuit combined. I played it for over two hours longer than I played WarioWare: Smooth Moves during the brief time I owned it.

There are a ton of things to do, and the map is huge. You can find lots of little business to bust in on and take over, using a small array of tactics to try and persuade their loyalty. You can temporarily bribe cops to turn a blind eye to your rampages. You can take on tasks for people, such as taking care of a pesky thug in the back alley, or knocking someone off. You can buy new duds which will help you earn more respect. You can talk to people, you can beat people up, you can get into firefights with the cops, you can rob banks... This game has TONS of content, and it is very engagine and fun so far.

The controls in this game are also great. They are intuitive, so you basically do what you want to with the controllers, and your character does it. It takes a bit of getting used to, but if this is not your first Wii game, then you will adjust in no time. Punching feels exceptionally good, as does smacking people into walls. And don't get me started on how much fun it is to hit people with a baseball bat! Aiming your projectile weapons is also another good control scheme, with both a target-centered mode and a free-aim mode, you get your pick of how you want to aim your pistol/tommy gun/shotgun. The controls overall feel great, but the camera controls are slightly strange. I want to invert the camera rotation option, and the option is there... But that works well until you get into a free-aim situation, where if you want to turn to the left, you need to move your cursor to the right of the screen. That is just very, very wrong, and I think it slipped by the QA team because I can't think of one reason anybody in their right minds would like this. The only other thing I would have preferred done differently was the driving controls. I wish EA had copied the jeep-driving control ideas from Call of Duty 3, but improved upon it. That would have made for the complete package. But overall, driving isn't terrible, certainly no worse than you'll experience on any other system.

The sound and music are good, and I have no major complaints other than the often repeated phrases from people you speak to and limited voice actor variety. One thing I did notice is that when played through a Dolby ProLogic II decoder, the audio seems to be a little jumpy from channel to channel if you are, for example, rotating or moving around someone or something making sounds. But overall, it isn't that big a deal, and sure doesn't impede gameplay fun for me.

For the money you're going to pay, there is no better Wii game out there right now if you are looking for a deep game that can keep you busy and engaged for many hours at a time, with tons of stuff to do, and great use of Wii controls. If you are looking for a game where you play one mission here, one mission there, this might not be the best game for you (might I suggest Sonic & the Secret Rings?). But it's certainly worth a rental if you are a fan of Grand Theft Auto and have never tried The Godfather series before. If you're a GTA fan, I think you'd be hard-pressed to not enjoy this game, especially considering it really is the only option of that type on the Wii at the moment.

Simply put, this game ROCKS! If you are fine with Mature titles (violence, foul language, sexuality), decent but not amazing graphics, great controls, and gameplay that draws you in, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition is for you.

That's right... Well, I'm trying anyhow. If you have not yet heard of GameTrailers, it's a cool site with tons of videos added all the time.

They have a cool feature called the Marketplace where you can get free items, including games and even consoles.

To get the free games, you need to be active on the site enough to build up enough points. You get the points by watching, posting, and rating videos, posting blogs, comments, etc.. Once you have enough, you can buy a game for free.

If you go there and sign up, please use me (adolson) as a referral. I'll get 500 points when you hit level 5 (you get experience and you level up, according to how active you are there). Same goes for any of your referrals for you.

Here is my Wii number...

Well, the Wii is fantastic! I am so glad I spent under the price of a PS3 and got a total of 5 games, two controllers and two numchaku attachments and the system itself. Nintendo is back, and they are badass.

If anyone wants to add my Wii, my console number is:
5622-8967-0671-1494

Be sure and send me a message here to let me know you have added me, and give me your console number. Also, add me to your tracked list, and I will add you so we are friends here on GameSpot as well.

I could post my number in the forums, but I'd rather not just have tons of random people adding me. If you read my blog post, at least I know you took the time to find me, rather than just hit-and-miss in a forum post. Well, that's my thoughts right now, but since nobody reads this, I'm sure I'll resort to the forums later on. Heh.

Six games gone, two new games added

So I went to EB Games as I said I would and they had four copies of Zelda in stock. I brought about 40 of my GCN games, and 3 remaining Xbox games, and managed to scrape 6 of them together that were valued at $8 or higher trade-in. So now I have added Zelda and Monster 4x4 to my list of Wii games, bringing the total to 5 games! Woo woo.

Also, found a bug in Marvel Ultimate Alliance... My character locked up and I couldn't do anything but change my super power selection. My wife was able to continue playing, but since it forces us both to be on the screen, there was not much to do but quit. She lured an enemy to try and kill my character, but the bug made me invincible.

Also, I was leaving the Wii Shop Channel and the system just went black. It didn't respond to the remote power button, nor the power button on the console, nor the reset button. I had to unplug and re-plug the power cable. I hope this doesn't happen often... It is scary. No other problems so far.

Got my Wii!!!!

I waited from 4pm until 8:45am this morning to get my Wii. I was lucky number 7.

I picked up a couple games, gonna get Zelda via tradein at EB soon as well.

Gotta go, playing...

Can't sleep, can't eat... Nervous, worried, excited...

It's the day we've all been waiting for... Well, not yet. Tomorrow. Well, not tomorrow. Sunday. But tomorrow I will be waiting in line at WalMart, waiting to get my hands on the Nintendo Wii. And tonight. Tonight, I feel like vomitting. I can't eat. I can't sleep. How am I going to work tomorrow during the day? How am I going to work next week??? HOW? Nintendo, why did you have to do this?! I have not been excited about a console launch since... Super GameBoy, and that was just a console accessory, not really a console. And now, after all these years, I have excitement, anxiety, and something bad. Nervousness. Fear.

I am nervously afraid that I won't get a Wii tomorrow. Sunday. Whatever, it's all just one big day from now until the end of Sunday. I should not be this excited or nervous over a game system, but I am. It's strange... But I am.

I don't even know what game I will get, because I can only afford one game (or maybe, maybe a second game) and a controller and the console itself. This is with money that I have been saving since the summer. With Christmas coming, I can't put any part of my regular paychecks aside - it's tight as it is, but buying gifts for others is important, especially at this time of year, y'know. I'll be happy with just Wii Sports, so my wife and I can play bowling, boxing, etc. all without her breaking a nail, or me breaking a sweat. Well, maybe I will sweat a little.
