[QUOTE="curtkobain"]Snowboarding is hugely different from skating. It's a lot harder to carve on snow than it is to turn on a skate deck. Plus you have to factor in different snow conditions and reverse/traditional cambered boards. On a snowboard, the hardest part is riding down the hill, not doing tricks and olleying like on a skate board. I really don't see how you could make a game like Skate for snowboarding. It would either be too easy or frustratingly difficult.

Well you must not snowboard if you think just riding is the hardest part but still the ollie and nollie would be easy to do with the stick. Also flicking left and right like on skate would throw your legs around to get that late whip on spins or 270s and 450s on and off features. I dont know I feel like if they just made a PARK aimed realistic snowboarding game it could be endless hours of fun especially being able to create a park or run. Its just a shame that some gamers are into some wierd and unrealistic genres more. Which dont get me wrong I like some of them but I also like my realistic simulators esp being a snowboarder it would be nice.

[QUOTE="afleury226"][QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]When i eventually get a 360 i was looking forward to Amped 3, always wanted a good snowboarding game too.nickdastick

Yeah Amped 3 was terrible. Amped 2 is the only reason I still have the original XBOX so that on those days where im craving a legit Snowboarding game I at least have something!

Have you played Stoked? If you enjoy Amped 2, then you'll probably like Stoked. It's a very fun snowboarding game.

Yes Ive beat it. But what people are missing my point. Stoked was all about Big Air back country booters. Which dont get me wrong I love. But it only went so far. I want all park features because the game would never get old like Skate with Create a park. I could go forever! :D

I think that is a great idea! I love the Skate series and I love snowboarding games so it would be a great way for EA and Black Box to switch it up a bit. I also think the game would be quite good since Black Box did such a good job right out of the gate with Skate. I still have Amped 2 because it's such a good snowboarding game and I would love to see a snowboarding game similar to that come out and Black Box and their Skate engine would seem like a great combo to take that on.

spliffstar12
Yeah. I also didnt realize that Black Box is now EA Canada. Still though, they obviously have the rights to the platform and engine. The only thing that sucks is that EA Games is too big of a company to care about us. Its all about the dime in thier pocket not about what people want so who knows. I do want to write a formal letter to them and just get an answer as to why this isnt something theyve taken on, because it would make more money for them than Skate did.

I doubt it skating games have always seemed more popular then snowboarding games

Yeah I said the sport in general, not the games. The games have always been more popular because look at the work and marketing put into Tony Hawk and Skate and they have always just been better. Period you know? Its unfortunate.

I agree with you on a few points, the shaun snowboarding games are terrible. Stoked is decent but the best snowboarding game this generation has been Amped.

Also for those that like the Skate engine and want a more realistic snowboarder with more control, a game like you suggest would be perfect for those fans.

I can vision the Skate engine used for snowboarding....more realistic enviroment, more control and steeper learning curve. Its just not my cup of tea.

Personally I just don't think there would be a huge market out there for that type of game, which is why I don't think you'll see a game like that, at least this generation.I think though snowboarding games are at their best when they are over the top and fast paced. The SSX tricky series initally sold very well, their sales dropped because they over saturated the market with SSX games last generation. But I think the initial sales show gamers want an arcade type snowboarding game

TheRaiderNation

Yeah I agree. I just dont understand why they would make Skate then. There is an even smaller market for skateboarding you know? I just cant deal with SSX I havent played them since the 2nd one because I cant stand the craziness of the tricks its not fun. I can see how it is fun fro people but I dont know.

I think EA saw the Tony Hawk series declining and thought a more realistic skater might refresh the genre and bring in huge sales. I know last generation the Tony Hawk series was extremely popular and had to sell well. most of my friends had one of the Tony Hawk games and most were not even into skate boarder. I am not even a fan of skateboarding yet I owned tony hawk 2, 4 and underground. I actually did by the first skate for the PS3 after it dropped in price, I lost interest in it though pretty quick.

So while there might be an equal or smaller market for skate boarders compared to snowboarding games now, that def was not the case last generation. The Hawk games just didn't have the magic that once had last generation, and I think the genre may have lost some fans because of this. I really don't think the Skate series was able to win them all back.

For your sake I hope someone release a realistic snowboarder that is really good! I am still holding out for the next SSX. To this day, my girlfriend and I still will play SSX Tricky after hitting the slopes (skiing) in the winter!

Damn well maybe I should consider the new SSX (for having my GF be more involved) haha Because I dont think she gets the curve of Skate too much, COD and battlefield either haha. Yeah good outlook man I like it. I really hope someone comes with something solid.

[QUOTE="afleury226"]Right but you can modify and tweak it to become a legit engine based off of skate. Rather than starting from scratch.foxhound_fox

You must not know much about game design and programming. It would take a lot more than "tweaks" to get a snowboarding game from that engine. They'd have to completely rebuild the physics engine, since it won't be wheels on concrete anymore, but a static board on slippery snow and ice. They would have to reanimate all the animations because skateboarding involves a fluid board, not one attached to the feet. The only things they could keep would be the "gravity rail" effect that drags you to a ledge or rail and the twisting/grabing animations for air tricks... and even then it would still require some work.

Unfortunately, game design isn't as simple as most people think it is (I used to think it was, before I started looking into the process and talking to me programmer friend about it). Skate took a very large team of programmers many months of work just to build and tweak a skateboarding game. It would be nice if we could just "request" a type of game and have them "do it up" in a little bit... but Black Box would have to start from scratch if they wanted to build a proper snowboarding game. Trying to "tweak" the Skate engine would probably be more difficult, and could cause far more unforseen problems.

I understand. But my point is at least they would be ahead of the curve and have the right idea on top of someone making it out of no where you know?

There already is a realistic snowboard game with Skate-like controls, it's called Stoked.der_spudmeister
I know this. I bought it when I had a 360. Its fun only for a little thought because its all Big Mountain Back country riding. I want park features, I want to get creative on the boxes, rails, quarter pipes, bonks, wall rides and kickers. Why does everyone here immediatly think I just want a realistic snowboarding game where you just cruise down a trail? HELL NO! lol Im talking about it being realistically creative like Skate! Park features with competition

[QUOTE="afleury226"]Yeah but there is gamers like you who prefer the over the top. Then there is gamers like me who love the SKATE series and use it to get creative and have fun in a realistic environment. I'm sorry if you couldn't picture a snowboarding game built off of the engine but it would be awesome for a big snowboarder and fan like me. The controls for fun boxes and all the other features would be so good. Being able to butter and use the right stick to throw your legs around for the 450 off boxes or get that late 180 in to stomp the 1260 would be awesome in my opinion. I dont know it might not be for you but your not the only person out there. There are a lot of people that want this to happen. Yet all they do is release something like Shaun White Snowboarding which is terrible. Stoked was ok. It was fun for a bit. I just think that EA/Black Box could really make something worth while.TheRaiderNation

Because snowboarding by its very nature is quite boring.... I mean it's fun enough when you do it IRL but unless a game allows you to light one up on top of the mountain and pickup some snow bunnies I am afraid the actual experiance of going in one direction with the occasional mogul jumps is meh...

Thats why successful snowboarding games are so over the top and unrealistic. Think taxi driving an actual taxi simualtor would be boring to be successful you need Crazy Taxi.

Snowboarding is a bit like that you need fireworks and volcanos to make it work.

juliankennedy23
Thats why you toke and play if you arent at the hill. Saying that hitting one mogul is kind of mean haha I dont just wanna ride trails thats why I said there needs to be a street mode where the end user can create a stair set for themselves or something. Also thats why it would have features all the way down the mountain so your not just riding like STOKED.
