This second version just lacks a certain darkness and excitement the first one had. I bought it day one and I got about half way through and haven't had any desire to finish it. There's just too much backtracking (like the reviewer says) to get excited to play it. Spending 5 minutes looking at the map for maybe one spot I missed and then realizing I don't have the right item once I get there gets infuriating.
I'm an original NES Metroid player born in 1984, so I'm all about this style of game, but this one just feels like there's no direction to it. Like the backtracking is added in because it's supposed to.
