Used cars and furnitures are vastly different than new ones; used books are apparently not the same as new ones, too (though close, you can say).

But, used games are identical to new ones once you put them in your optical drive. Unless you are really impatient (day one purchase, I know a lot of people do that :)), or you are really nice that you are truly willing to support developers at the expense of your wallet, virtually you don't have any incentive to buy games new.

As I stated before, I don't support the elimination of used game market, but I think it is reasonable to make used games different from new games in terms of value. (i. e. if you really cannot afford new game at full price, you can buy it used cheaper while forfeiting some gameplay value (extra content etc.))

(But your being unable to sell your games is simply outrageous :P)

What would you say?

Suppose you and your neighbor, each of you have and only have $30 for video game. Now there is a game out which costs $60 and both of you want to play.

If there is no used game market (for example games are tied to your account or xbox or whatever), neither of you can afford it, sale = 0.

However, you can borrow $30 (from your neighbor or someone else) to buy the game, play it, sell it to your neighbor for $30 and return the $30 you borrow. Both of you are happy, and sale = 1.

You raised some very good point here. This is why "used games are hurting this industry" is false argument: if there is no used game market, games will be more expensive eventually, therefore much less sales.

ANy pc gamer that has been around for awhile would have Fallout1/2 on there instead of Fallout3 and also Planetscape TOrment.

Me personally I would add:

Stalker, ARMA2, Divine Divinity, Diablo2, Counterstrike Source, Wizardry rpg series, System Shock 2, The Witcher, Dune2, Heroes of Might and Magic3, Simcity, Civilization series and Daggerfall on there

Generally speaking, PC games in the vein of Starcraft 2 and Civ V appeal only to hardcore gamers. Not fake emo hardcore. Real hardcore - the kind who take memorizing Build Orders for granted. Such gamers are not numerous and for the most part, they really don't care. You can declare Move Party GOTY and it'll barely register as a blip in their radar - that's because they'll usually be too deep in the game to hear you. By December all these guys proclaiming SC2 GOTY won't even be around here to post - they'll be deep into the SC2 tournaments.roxlimn

Those will be great games and all, but they will all be fighting for 2nd place once Starcraft 2 comes out.
